The filter socket I use is MAC. If I recall correctly the part number figures to 76mm w/ 14 flutes. It seems a tight fit when on the filter cap.

I measured mine and it is 14 flats and the maximum size is 74,6mm and 73,8mm at the top. I purchased one once that's no good, too big. I just screw them on by hand for now.

The 74 or 76 argument is on the Benz forum as well.

Dave, I don't have my filter cap handy to check, but I want to think it may have a slight taper to it so that either size will work. My 76mm seems to be a bit deeper than the average filter socket. I can say mine is a very tight fit as it should be. I like to use it so it can be torqued to proper tightness. The torque value is molded in the cap so it must be important since it is of plastic material.

I agree, I want a socket so that the cap can be torqued up correctly.

Use that strap wrench that you bought to remove and replace the supercharger pulley.
Or your monkey wrench with a towel. Or ..... If you can't get it off with your hands, wimp. Or some gorilla put it on way too tight.
