One of those deals where you're at a light and the lane in front of you ends and you have to merge left. Have you been there?

Well, I gave it quite a bit more gas than what was needed and the back of the car spun to the left toward the PU I was next to. Then it hooked up and the car flew out front only to let go again this time spinning to the right and the ditch. It was a double wammy. I'm cranking the wheel this way and that just to keep it on the road when it finally gripped and took off.

There was smoke and the smell of burnt rubber everywhere. I can't imagine what the other drivers were thinking. Hopefully they enjoyed the show. lol

It was an exhilarating experience to say the least. I'm a bit suprised the TCS didn't kick on. I checked the tires afterwards and they're gone (3/32"). A new set of Falkin 452's are on order.

Gotta get the dual CAI installed. What a rush. This stuff is addictive!

Did you look at the Hankook Ventus evo tires? We run 285/35 rears on our SRT and the Limited roadster. Love them, and it seems a bunch of people use them too.

There's a number of good offerings out there. I went with the Falkens because I've used them on my old NA. They're really inexpensive, quiet, they handled corners well and never developed flat spots.

As far as tread life? I'm not sure any tire is going to last very long on the rear of this car. lol

Wow, what a ride! Did you just keep your foot in it, or did you back off to make easier to regain control? Did you ever find out what happened to the TCS? My wife drives this car often and the above discription would scare her. Probably make me think too.

Nah, actually rolled my foot into it. It's been slipping around quite a bit lately but when it broke loose the second time...well, that was an eye opener. I've never had a car do that before.
The tyres are dated 2004 and don't offer much traction. The new Falkens will help alot...for now.

One of the things I hated most about our cars was the open diff. When one wheels breaks loose, the TC will try to compensate, meanwhile you are trying to compensate, then the TC lets go and you have traction again, only to break loose again...and it becomes a battle. I found if I just go with it, and not counter steer, I would be better off. Once I installed the wavetrac limited slip, this was never an issue again. The car acts normal. Sometime when you have the area to do it in. Get it loose and do nothing but steer it straight and see for yourself, the car will right itself....MB technology...but I like old fashion seat of pants handling myself...lol

I'm having a little trouble picturing that. If the cars going sideways you're going to want to turn the wheels to compensate or it's going to hook up in a different (disasterous) direction.
There's a parking lot nearby and I could try it.

Not meaning to turn this into a tire thread but I got the Falken 452's on and let me tell you what. For a cheap tire, they really offer a premium ride. Super smooth and quiet. They just feel like quality going down the highway and they corner really nice.

I'm not sure about greatly increased traction though. They're a little better but the engine still sets them spinning with relitive ease.
Do I care?

Nope.
