HELP ASAP I'M STRANDED!!! My car stalled
I was driving my car from Florida to arizona and I'm stranded in San Antonio of I10 West. All of the sudden my car is hard to start it turns over fine but won't start till several tries and now just stalled while idling with brake held down in drive at a light. It only has 67,000 miles on it , I just got it back in October. I only use premium gas and I just took it before I left to get the oil changed and I also replaced the fuel filter ( I used the correct oil we checked it twice) help me!!! Any suggestions?
Crankshaft position sensor ...... have a Mercedes mechanic put it in. If you can find an independent shop. This is pretty common on this platform
GET A BOSCH CPS if you buy a generic one, it can waste your time! We've seen this before.
You MIGHT consider a new battery, too. Probably is the CPS but bad batteries or corroded terminals have causes some problems with the engine running right.
ALSO, re-soldering of the Relay Control board is not a bad idea, either.
IN order of likely-hood: CPS, Relay Board, Battery
Do you have a check engine light on? If so, reading the code may tell us all we need to know.

Hey DBidault hope you can help out MissSilky. I see you've been a member since Oct. 2012. Haven't seen you at any of the GTGs or Cruise-ins. You are invited to join us any time.
Good thing you made it to SA as opposed to someplace like Flatonia.
There's a lot of realestate along I10. Hope you're up and running soon.

Hey Bill, I've wanted to get to some of the GTG's but I've been super busy since I joined here. I'll make it to one of the GTG's soon! I bought my car in Universal City back in Oct. I still have some things to do to make it a daily driver though!
I talked to MissSilky and her Dad. Engine cranks strong, no check engine light, and most of the time it stays running once it starts. That sounds like it could be an intermittent connection on something to me. They want to keep pushing ahead and I think they were driving while I was talking to them, I hope they make it okay.
Those of you that have had the bad CPS, did you get an OBD code set when it failed? and was it intermittent or a solid failure?

Seems 9.5 out of 10 throw the code. Mine fired twice after initial failure, and then croaked. I'm wondering about "new fuel" filter.. hope is was the OEM quality and not Auto Zone or equivalent ...
I didn't suspect the fuel filter at this point but I wouldn't rule it out since it was changed recently. My experience with bad (plugged) fuel filters is a lack of power and stumbling but not a no start issue.
