Default Drain Fuel

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for easily draining the fuel tank in our cars.

This weekend theres a autocross that i will be towing my car to, and i still have year old fuel in it from storage. I used stabil and such when storing it, but i dont want to push the engine on year old fuel; some fresh 94 is definetly needed

Any tips? Im sure these cars have anti-siphon strainers in them, so im assuming i will have to drain it from a fuel rail, or disconect the fuel filter under the car and see if the fuel pump runs continuously?

I'd go with plumbing the filter output ( or fuel rail ) to a large catch can and running the fuel pump from a extra battery, or a 12v lead from the car battery ( through a 15 amp fuse in either case ).

MAKE SURE THESE ARE SOLID CONNECTIONS BEFORE STARTING ANY FUEL FLOW !!!!!!!!!!!

BTW :
Add 1 cup of - Dual CIA
Here in the States, one CIA wasn't enough either, so we invented Homeland Security.

You could also jack up the rear of the car, remove the plastic cover, and disconnect the hose from the tank that feeds the pump. It will flow vigorously once removed.

Great, thanks guys.
Ill back the car up on ramps and see how shallow of a bucket i can fit under there. Gas is still good, so its desntened for the rider mower

Ill let you all know how it turns out; this is my first time i get to take the car out and do any sort of fun spirited racing with it
If this racing thing gets addicting, a 2nd crossfire is defiently on the list and will be setup as a pure trackday machine, i cant risk the pain of hurting my pristine baby. lol

I built a custom car hauler just to fit the crossfire, just about done the aluminum ramps. All thats left is to fab up the ramp transport rails under the trailer, and finish off some tie downs.... Lets hope the car fits!

Please make sure a fire extinguisher is nearby and the exhaust has fully cooled prior to draining the fuel.

Actually, some lawnmowers specify "reg." fuel only.

Talking Re: Drain Fuel

Dont use a extra battery, your going to get sparks and loose leads. You could also drain the fuel rail on the engine with a hose attached to the fitting. A/C service gauge hoses screw on and the fuel could be pumped out that way. Have it run to a catch can thats BIGGER than what you expect to collect. Dont wanna run around looking for can (s).

Being under a car and gas are a bad mix. When I use a lift I use a big fan to drive the fumes off and out the double doors. Fan is 10 feet away. I also have fire extinguishers, towels to catch spills, and a fire proof container to collect this into.

This is what happens when you drain a gas tank using a pump powered by a electric hand drill.
The guys wife had filled their diesel powered car with regular gasoline. OOPS

It works on my computer OK.
No, this new system sucks big time.
Only old pics can be posted correctly as far as I can see.

couldn't you just drive the car until the gas gets low...then fill up again with new gas? or am I missing something?

That would be too easy. I'm sure the fuel would be still good anyway.
Come the next gas crisis people would be killing each other for this gas.

I am just leaning towards the side of caution, i wasnt going to trust year old gas in my engine with the mods i have. Also i trailered it to the autoracing this past weekend, so it would be right into performance driving, after warming up during idle. If i was going to drive it normaly on the road prior, i wouldnt have a problem with doing that to burn off the old fuel, i just dont have my car on the road this year.

Draining the fuel was pretty straight foward, no fires to be worried about
I just pulled the inlet line off the fuel filter, and hooked up an external fuel pump away from under the car and let it pump it into jerry cans. Got it down to just above empty, then clamped the line back up, put some fresh 94 in, started her up, checked for leaks, then buttoned up the plastic cover, and off to the races
