Default Take the car to a garage or not?

Hi guys,

Just s quick question about my srt6,

I was driving to work yesterday and when I stoped at the lights the car lost all power all the lights where working and cd player was also working but the engine turned off, tryed to turn the key but nothing, but few min after I turned the key the car started up but the check engine light came on. So I parked the car and went to work, got back to the car started up as normal and no check engine light.

The car has been normal today.
What do you guys think happened, you think it's worth taking it to a garage? Or was it a just one off thing that I don't need to worry about every time I drive the car.

Thanks in advance guys.

Sounds like you lost power from the engine control relay on the Relay Control Board, this feeds power to the PTCM/ECM as well as other engine-related items - very, very common issue.

Remove the RCB and resolder every point on it.

My siglines are prettier and more colorful than yours.
And I have a Picture, too.

The Engine light came on, so it probably set a code indicating the fault. Before doing anything get the fault code read by an auto supply shop, they do it for free I'm told in the US.
The last place you want to take your Crossfire is a garage.

Get an UltraGuage ( $69.95 before the $9 rebate ) - it will read and reset the codes.
( And as 180 pointed out, it will tell you when you are low on oil ...... NOT ! )
I have 2, one in the car, and a spare I picked up here on the forum for $35 )

Thanks for the replys guys, found out what the problem was.....the Crankshaft Sensor needs replacing.

The car stopped again so called green flag to recover it, the guy used his Diagnostic Tool.

What Crankshaft Sensor do I need to buy as in any brand I need to look out for or part number?

Thanks again guys.

Get a Bosch if you can.

I'm going to guess your "but nothing" means the starter spun but the engine wouldn't fire. This would be the CPS typically. "Nothing" here is generally accepted as no starter engagement. "If" that happens then your looking at the RCM repair.

I got my Bosch CPS at German Auto Supply in North Carolina.

germanautosupply.com

I ordered their item 0 261 210 170 and got a Bosch MB# 003 153 27 28

Under $50 last year. Buy a Bosch or hate yourself for buying junk!

My Advanced Auto Borg Warner CPS was worse than my faulty OEM. Money down the drain POS. I'm not saying all Bosch is golden because it's not but it's the answer if your CPS is faulty.

Well when I got mine.. "Lifetime warranty".. so I won't be switching brands at this point. But the Bosch rides behind my seat and will only get used long enough to use that warranty.

I guess I was a little harsh but I like to fix it once and be done with it if possible. The whole story is my OEM was having a hard start from time to time and threw the CPS code. When the hard start happened at the race track I decided not to wait any longer. The Borg Warner was inexpensive and in stock. It ran great until I hit 4000 rpm and then the engine shut off. No power steering or brakes, real dangerous, so forget the lifetime guarantee if the part is going to get you killed. Yanked out the Borg Warner, reinstalled the old Bosch with some dielectric grease and ordered a new Bosch from Rob. Guess what, the original hasn't given me trouble and the new one is in the tool box. The Borg Warner went straight to the trash. I get the feeling, often, the CPS is just dirty or the plug needs a good cleaning.
To the OP, if a Bosch is hard to find, pull yours off, clean it, reinstall with some dielectric grease and see if it resolves the issue.
I had bad luck with the Borg Warner but lots of cars are running them with good results. If you can do the work yourself use what you can find. The BW does indeed have a lifetime warranty and you may get a good one the first time out.
Now you know the rest of the story.

Okay had to go get the box on my "new" one to see what brand they gave me.. is this the Borg Warner one that is giving most an issue with?

Standard Motor Products
We distribute parts under our own brand names, such as Standard, BWD, Hayden and Four Seasons, and through private labels. SMP products are distributed primarily to warehouse distributors, large retail chains, national program distribution groups, specialty market distributors, original equipment manufacturers and original equipment service part operations.

Bosch was my intent.. it starting acting up one morning... ordered the Bosch from Ebay when I got to work.. then the CPS totally quit when I stopped off after work. There was no way I was leaving my car on that side of town so a couple phone calls later, my wife brought this up and got her home. If I do have problems later and it repeats, then the Bosch will go in and be done with it irreguardless of warranty..

The Mercedes part will probably be a Bosch, it is the OEM part on the Crossfire and likely most Mercs as well. Do not buy it from a Chrysler dealer.
