maintenance check up
I have srt6 black coupe recently brought. I want to take to a dealership for a check up. Should I take it to Mercedes or Chrysler dealership. The car is under warranty so I just have to pay the $100 deductible.
MB or Mopar? That is the question. Many people have discovered that their local Chrysler dealers have very little knowledge of the SRT6/SLK32 platform. The Mopar dealers tend to be less expensive for routine maintenance. However, even some smaller MB dealers don't really understand the 3.2 AMG power plant.
My suggestion is to ask around about GOOD quality independent MB mechanics. If you are in Austin, as your screen name suggests, there is probably a member on this forum who has dealt with dealership and indy mechanics.

I have an SLK32 so I can't speak specifically about taking the Xfire to an MB dealer. However, I'm reasonably confident that the two models are identical except for a few body panels, perhaps some suspension components and the retractable hard top. I'm sure the various computer/electronic components (ECU, TCU, etc) are identical.
As your car is under warranty, I wouldn't hesitate to take it to the local MB dealership. That being said, make sure you document your car's current condition and what you want the dealership to do PRIOR to taking it to them. Dealerships have a tendency to screw the pooch and then blame the customer. "If you can't fix the problem, fix the customer."

Thanks for help. I am not in Austin. That's my last name. I'm in Louisville, KY. The Chrysler dealers here don't know much about the crossfire. We do have a large Mercedes dealership here that's where it looks like I am going to take the car. But I heard there are problems with taking the car there because they can't read the ECU. Do you know if that it is true. I know the Crossfire has a difficult ECU.
I took mine to the MB dealer and the manager said they could not work on it due to the ECU mismatch. Went to the local DODGE dealer and that manager said what MB said was untrue. Apparently, the industry was forced by US Govt. to make all ECU readers compatible within the last couple of years. I am fortunate that this DODGE dealer has a cert. XF mechanic who DOES know his stuff. Later learned that MB was trying to hire him away from the DODGE shop. But, he's still at DODGE. I suspect that the rebuff from MB was more snobbery than reality..
