Default Thoughts on a Braided Power Steering Line

I currently am having my power steering pump replaced. While being replaced, the garage recommends that I put steel braiding around my power steering pump cooling line. I do have the NW DCAI with Rob's power steering line modification which has about 3' total of rubber hose. There is some leaking around the clamps that I used which probably lead to the failure of the pump.

They of course recommend $500 worth of extra work for the braiding which think is a bit ridiculous. I thinking some better clamps on the end of the rubber hose would work fine. The rubber hose that Rob provides is pretty thick.

Thoughts?

You can buy a lot of clamps for $500.
This is the first of this type of problem I have seen, so no need for braided hose. If it leaks at a clamp fix the clamp not the hose.
There are many hydraulic hoses that are not braided on the outside and they have higher pressure ratings, as long as the hose is spec'd out OK there is no problem. The construction of the hose is all important, some have braiding inside. Braiding looks cool though.

What kind of a small man would deny his girl her braids?

IMHO I think you're fine with a new/tighter clamp on the hose. Just check the hose for cracks, tear's etc.

I remember it being a tight squeeze getting in there to tighten those clamps. I am sure new clamps will take care of the problem. If you want braided lines. Just measure what you need length wise and the fittings and order them. They will cost less than a hundred bucks.

I think I will go with the better clamps.
