I have bad news for you you can only get 2 of the boots as a separate item. I believe it is the outers that only come with the axles.

You can replace both inner and outer. We do it regularly, I don't remember where we got ours but if you look on ebay there are plenty around.

Never checked the price of the Crossfire halfshafts, but on most cars, it is just as cheap to replace the entire assembly verses boots.

Hey while cleaning the underside of the car noted the following in the pics, are seals gone or is this normal? The car sits lots and only has 14000 on it

a) Just checked mine and are fine. A lot depends on how much salt and other corrosives hit them. This is why whenever I go to the beach, my car gets washed after with special care taken of the undercarriage.

I have sold cars before on pictures of the underside. "No rust" has a different meaning here than in the Midwest.

b) imagine the labor to R&R the axles to do the boots is considerable. That is why split boots are popular for replacements, you do not have to remove the axles.

c) Best way to inspect the underside is on a lift. You can come close with a good digital camera but not as good as the MK 1 eyeball with a powerful light.

If you figure out where you ordered from let me know. Last time I looked I was not able to find the outers (if I remember correctly). Some people claimed they sold the outers but they had part numbers/info did not line up. MB did not sell them separate and my shop could not find any.

Try CVJ axles in Denver Co. All they remanufacture are axles and cv joints and are reasonably priced.

Its too cold to go and check mine. But I am not sure exactly what you talking about. I can't get your pics to full size without an error. If the boots were bad, you should see grease leaking out. If I suspect what you are talking about, I think that is some kind of vibration damper. Warmer weather will allow me to look at mine closer. James

Sorry, see if these work better, parts in pics are immediately to the left and right of the rear diff.

Grease / oil only seem to be on one side of the circumference of the part as if it leaked out while sitting stationary?
Any ideas? 14000 miles on car
Thanks

I cannot get the pics bigger as well.
I looked at the Service Manual and I think you are OK.
Quote - 'HALF SHAFT VISUAL INSPECTION
1. Check for grease in the vicinity of the inboard and outboard CV joint. If grease is present, this may be a sign that the inner or outer boots, or the retaining clamps are damaged.
2. A light film of grease may appear on the inner CV boot; this is considered normal and should not require replacement of the boot. All inner CV boots are made of silicone rubber; which will allow weeping of the joint lubricant to pass through the boot while in operation.'
