Track Brakes
So after a shakedown run at the track this weekend it was pointed out that the stockers with EBC yellow's are not up to the task. I know Justin is on the Stoptech kit BBK, Les what are you running? Anyone else thats puts in track time have any insight?
I've installed a Stoptech BBK on the front like Justin …. and Jane had. The stock brakes are good enough until you get real fast with the right fluid and pads. I'm using Motul 660 brake fluid with Carbotech pads. (XP-12 front XP-8 rear)

The larger the caliper and rotor the more heat that can be radiated. Just because it's larger doesn't mean it stops shorter. Yes, you may get better brake feel and need less pressure on the pedal. So, before spending the thousands on something larger in size buy a brake pad that can handle the heat and the best fluid you can afford and keep it fresh through frequent bleeding. A track pad will make noise and dust a lot on the street so you may want a set of pads for the street and swap them for track pads for those racing days.

Les knows his stuff, to agree with everything he said the carbotech pads are great and help with the heat and cooking brakes, I don't track but do autocross and the pads and fluids helped a lot
You can ask Jim, he has one of the most modified XF out there that is still streetable, he has 8pots up front and 4pots in the rear from various AMG models. Beautiful brakes and they stop in a hurry...
A BBK is the easy button if you have the economic ability. All I'm saying is what we have stock is better than lots of cars out there. Granted, you can get away without having cooling ducts longer with huge heat sinks and most importantly, they look so cool! I had 2 problems with my stock brakes. First was the fluid because I didn't get a cool down lap and when I got in the car later for another heat I had no brakes. In went Motul RBF 600. Next I melted my Porterfield RS4's on a high speed track. They got too hot and melted. Gone in 20 minutes. Neither were caused by the stock brake hardware not being up to the task but by stock fluid and pads not up to the task. Our front rotors are 330mm. The AMG upgrade is 345mm and Stoptech's are 355mm. If you really use the brakes they'll need to be rebuilt at least every 2 years. I've replaced my Stoptech rotors once already ($800) and did a rebuild on the calipers. The rubber parts get brittle and crack from the heat. It's cheaper to stay with stock hardware and buy the best fluid and correct pads for the job.

I found a smoking deal on the StopTech's for the front. Wife gave me the ok so as soon as i get a verbal confirmation of the part number im pulling the trigger on them.
