new to forum, ease of SRT6 to work on and reliability inquiry
So Im brand new to the forum and considering buyin an SRT6. I wanted to first post here to get an idea of how easy or difficult the car is to work on. Im very competent and hands on (have tons of tools etc), I however am not looking for something similiar to Audi/VW where the "German Engineering" aspect is to prevent me from working on my own car....
I know its Mercedes based and I previously owned a 190D which was fairly easy to work on. What is the reliability of this vehicle as well? From my reading the engine and transmission are pretty stout pieces...
Is there any weaklinks in the drivetrain when it comes to modding?
Thank you very much ahead of time

There is quite a bit that you can do to perk up the '6. The best bang for your buck would be to:
1) Add a dual cold air intake
2) Get a 62 or 65mm supercharger pulley
3) Get a tune
These basic items will add 50-60 HP to the car and are not that difficult to install. If you plan on taking it to the track a lot, you want to upgrade the differential to a Wave Trac.
I have owned SRT-6s since 2011 and have had no major mechanical issues at all. You won't regret it if you buy one.
The forum has a ton of information, so I suggest doing some reading if you are looking to do a particular mod.

What can go wrong is usually minor if you can figure out what it is. The major parts are hard to break. I over maintain my car but also beat it to death. Killing one is almost un heard of. Stay away from the dealer, they buy MB parts and put them in a Chrysler bag and charge double.

thank you everyone for getting back to me. Im glad to here its user friendly and you can be hands on and work on your own vehicle. Too many times I had considered Audis (S4s specifically) and then they had some crazy maintenance thing to deal with, like the Biturbo S4 to do the timing belt you need to remove the entire front of the car (bumper, radiator, radiator support etc) So then I saw the 4.2 V8 S4 at a dealer for cheap and thought, "hey maybe this is a good one" Wrong, the timng chain tensioner needs to be changed every 90k miles and its on the back of the engine near the firewall and the engine needs to be removed..
Anyway enough complaining, I will begin my further research of the SRT6.
Would anyone be able to tell me off hand what the power limits are of the drivetrain parts?

Really no limits, except maybe for the rear end which is easily fixed by adding the LSD or swapping out for a Wavetrack, making them virtually bulletproof! Many members are autocrossing and running theirs at the Drag Strip.
I purchased a srt6 roadster w/38k miles last September. I had a bad intercooler circulation pump which I replaced myself with a #10 Bosch. That's the only pure fault that needed repair. I fixed other stuff, like a slight leak on the valve breather/cover, but that doesn't keep the car from going. As you can see in my sig, I've spent alot of resources to get the car perfect for my tastes. I couldn't possibly be happier with my decision. If you do any of the HP mods, you WILL want the Limited Slip Diff. It totally changes the car for the better. Every time I "move out" I remember what it was like without it and I just grin that it's not spin city anymore. Thanks for the LSD Jim!!!
