Best way to accelerate
From what I've gathered, our cars have plenty of low-end torque, but I've heard that the torque curve flattens out and falls off after 3-4k rpms. What does this mean in terms of accelerating? Does this mean that using the "autostick" and letting the car redline through every gear is not the fastest way to accelerate? Would just accelerating in "D" be the way to go for optimal acceleration, as the car tends to shift when it hits that 3-4k range? Or does the whole torque curve even matter because more rpms usually means more horsepower right?
The torque curve is more like a table. The drop off is minimal on mine. (15 to 20 ft lbs.) From low to high rpms there's little change on my modified engine with a torque peak at around 4500 rpm. The hp keeps climbing. Raise the rev limiter with a tune and the higher the revs the more power. No drop off. Stock may be different but I doubt it. Turn of traction control, put it in manual and go. Let it shift on it's own at redline. I haven't found a faster method with this car.

If you try to shift manually you will find the transmission shifts to the next gear anyways at it's usual rpm. It's OK to help the car slow down manually. So the best way is to plant the throttle and let it shift itself.
Hmmm...the "Best way to Accelerate"?
With total abandon and with no regard for safety or the concerns of others.
always worked for me...

Click the autoshifter into "1" and floor it. It will shift at redline. If your tires spin, disable traction control otherwise stability control will interfere.
lol thanks for the tips guys. seriously though, I just didn't know if it was advantageous to hover in that 3-4k rpm range to essentially stay in the power band.
I dont know if you are stock or not but.. mine keep power all the way through perfectly. If you look at dyno sheet i actually gain some grunt top end
How about the people like to roll race? Popular speeds seem to be 30,40,50, or 60. What is the ideal gear to be in while in manual mode when roll racing at those speeds?
My guess is 2nd,2nd,3rd and 3rd?

zoodust- yep mine is bone stock.
4drturbo- i think downshifting into the lowest gear possible for whatever rolling speed is the best way to go. i do know that from a 30 mph roll and the trans in "D", my car hits somewhat of a dead spot and it takes forever to accelerate. 30 mph roll feels fine when in manual mode though.

Wow, you joined over 7 years ago and this is your first post. What were you waiting for?
Welcome
You can still race from a roll. Its a lot easier/more common to do and less wear and tear on your vehicle. Seems to be getting more popular.
Ok thanks. That must have been add recently. The last time I looked into a killer chiller that was not an option. Good to know
Is there a way to lower the shift mark to keep it out of the red by modifying the rev limiter some way? My SRT when floored will tach up to 6+ and probably go to 7, but, I am not intending on racing the car, and I want to keep the rpm's from getting that high. I have had to feather the throttle at that point of rpm, to allow it to shift without going into the red zone. Any thoughts? Thanks...peace
flaxfiresrt: idk you could probably find a tuner who could change it for you. the only time i redline and let it autoshift is if im racing or driving hard on the street and thats what the system was designed to do in those situations. otherwise i just drive in D, but if i want to use the stick in a casual driving setting, then im prepared for the delayed shifting response from the transmission.
