Default DIY Code 3 Intake Question

I did the DIY Code 3 Intake a while back and it sure does sounds GREAT ! BUT as I know it must be pulling in a LOT of hot air in from the engine compartment, which I know hurts performance, especially in the HOT Florida weather. When I did the mod I made a block-off plate in case I wanted to cap the opening. Thing is I made it out of 1/8" Plexiglas. I'm not sure if that is going to be strong enough. Any suggestion would it be strong enough or should I make it out of something else 1/4" Plexiglas, aluminum, steel, ?????
Also what would be good to use as a gasket (seal) between the block off plate and the intake ??
Any ideas ?

I would use 1/16" aluminum and a sheet of Buna (neoprene) as a gasket.

Yes that might work.
I was thinking just use the plexiglas plate I have now but OVER the filter that is on there now and UNDER the square frame that is on there now. Just may need longer screws.
