Default Secondary air pump

Hey guys,
Having real trouble finding ANY mechanic that will look at my 2005 SRT-6 coupe.
So. after seeing a PO410 fault code I purchased an ebay secondary air pump (same Bosch part no. as the original)
but when I connected the power cable it started up and stayed engaged while the engine was/is NOT running
and would not stop after the engine was started up and then after a minute or so turned off.
Do y'all think this is a part defect or a computer problem?
My check engine light did go off, but obviously something's still up.
Many thanks!

NGP

RCM relay acting up most likely . Inside relay control module there is one relay (the rightmost if I remember correctly) that is controlling the smog pump.
I had the pretty much the same issue with same code. First I opened the RCM module and cleaned the relay contact points.
Worked for a while until same thing happened again. Then I cleaned it again, worked fine until acted up again and this time the smog pump stayed
on too long and was burned out. It takes only 15mins or so to destroy that pump as it is supposed to run only 45 seconds during cold start.

Ended up replacing with new RCM module AND new Vemo smog pump V30-63-0037 (original Bosch was 3x as costly).
Everything has worked fine ever since.

Hey! You were/are 100% correct! THANKS! My original sec. air pump must have stayed on too long at some point and was burned out and I found one that is supposedly for a Mercedes of that era with the same engine specs and a part no. just one digit off. Fits perfectly. I replaced the module you spoke of (which had been replaced before about seven years ago) and everything seems back to normal. Fingers crossed it all holds. Thanks so much for responding and sharing your virtually equal situation! Actually, I am glad I didn't bother with a mechanic because I probably saved a real chunk of change.
Cheers!

Good job! I actually tried to rebuild my burned smog pump but it was beyond salvage. It was melted pretty bad inside and carbons were lost also. It seems once it overheats its gone.
