A lift would make many of the services I perform much easier. I don't have a problem crawling under cars..... but I am feeling more aches and pains then I did in my 20's.

Anyways, more coffee..... and an update.

Got the accessories removed, along with the harness and the fuel rail/injectors.

I'm going to throw the injectors in the flow bench and make sure they are all performing similarly. If not, into the ultrasonic bath they go!!

New O-rings and back on they go.

Found a little AMG part number decal on the front of the intake manifold...… different intake on the N/A AMG engines??

I've never had a full set of 8 injectors flow so close together.

52psi for 30 seconds.

I wonder if AMG installs balanced injectors?

Bodes well for the condition of the top end too, no one cylinder was getting more or less fuel than any other cylinder.

Got the fuel rail re-installed, and the harness.

My wife decided to take the week off too...….. yay...... So we are on our way to lunch.

Just about done with dressing the engine out. All of the accessories are swapped over, and almost done with the wiring. The engine mounts are swapped over as well.

As far as the way the harness attaches to the multiple connections on the engine, the only differences between the V6 harness and the CL500 V8 harness are the AC compressor connector, and the connection at the (ML55 150a) alternator.

I have 5 wires I will have to splice and one I have to jump inside of the black box..... and that is it!! The V6 ME2.8 ECU has the exact same pinouts as the V8 ME2.8 ECU, just the V8 has the extra coils and injectors.

Almost there!!

Jared

This kinda reminds me of sliding small block Chevy's into mid 30's Fords. I can only appreciate all of the research and fiddling you have done. This takes me back to my old garage when I did a few of these. Now I am a wash and wax man with some maintenance on the side. You are doing a great job on a fair budget. Thanks for keeping us posted.

How about a small block in an S10?

Built this 11 years ago. 1991 Standard Cab Short Box 4X4 with a 5 speed and the Tuned Port Injected 350 from an 89 IROC Camaro.

Unfortunately I don't drive it anymore. I had really big plans and just kind of lost interest. Can't bring myself to sell it though.

We always do. February 14th is her Birthday, and will be our 14th Anniversary.

I broke down and bought the same coolant. More for the price than anything else though. You can spend $24 at the auto parts store for 50/50 pre-mix, or $32 for a gallon of concentrate. I do love Amazon!!

My red 04 also has the blue coolant so this creates more commonality between the 2 cars.

All the needed connections for the wiring on the engine have been soldered and heat shrunk.

I flushed out the engine and the cooling system in the car with copious amounts of fresh water.

The engine is essentially ready to install except for one small detail...… the exhaust manifolds.

Unfortunately the C43 manifolds are not a direct bolt on affair. Even though they look very similar, they terminate in a lower location at a different angle.

Fear not though..... I am going to cut the 2 forward ports from the C43 manifolds and the single forward port on the V6 manifolds and mate them together.

I will bolt them in place and tack them, and then off to my buddy's house where he will TIG them.

I'm going to have a little thumb twirling today.

If you have buddy with the TIG welder why don't you make the custom manifolds and eliminate all MB restrictions?
Something like that NeedsWings Performance Products. NeedsWings r193/r170 Exhaust Manifolds

Nope.

On a budget, and on a schedule.

This thing isn't going to sit around for 6 months waiting for something to happen.

These manifolds are good enough for the SRT6 and the C43 AMG and that is good enough for me.

I plan on deleting the cats, that will make the exhaust less restrictive.

If I had all the time in the world and money falling out of my @ss, then maybe I would get more creative.

World's CHEAPEST V8 swap.

Those are really pretty!!!

After discovering how the OEM manifolds are manufactured, my buddy is heading over here after work and he's going to MIG them together with my welder. He's a certified welder and will do a much better job than I could. It's not worth it to TIG them, it's just sheet metal.

That is all I am waiting for. Once the manifolds are welded, I will leave them bolted to the engine over night, and the engine goes in tomorrow.

Josh got my ECU yesterday, is working on it right now, and will mail it back tomorrow.

I could weld it with a stick welder, just let me know and good luck with your project.

One more thing, how are going to weld the internal tubing? Or are you going to leave it as is?

You don't have to weld the internal tubing, all of the internal tubing is slip fit. That's what makes mating the manifolds so easy to do.

You cut them open carefully without cutting through the internal tubing. Once the cut in the heat shield goes all the way around...… it falls apart.
