I'll put this one on my parts list. Just $20 difference.

The pump with the extra open fitting is for an SRT. I had to tap that unthreaded hole when I changed the pump on my limited. I do remember some one saying the material was soft enough and the bolt hard enough you could just screw it into the hole.

I found out, for Xfire and some Mercedes models GMB part number is 147-2250
For other Mercedes, models are GMB 147-2220

That's what I was thinking in case if I'll get the wrong pump. No big problem.

As long as you don't order the pump for the AMG engine, then you don't have to worry about that extra port. That's for the oil cooler.

I ordered the pump for a 2000 ML55 AMG. Had I ordered the pump for a XF, that port would have been missing.

The Bosch pump I put on my NA needed that hole tapped as well. It must be the standard for aftermarket pumps.

If you do that you are doing it wrong, it will not work like that on this part, buy a cheap tap if it is just going to be used once.
If you are going to do a job, do it right.

Problem solved. A 10 minute trip to the hardware store and about 5 minutes to open the bushing and tap the holes.

10,32mm drill bit for the alternator bushing, and a 6mm tap with a 1.00 thread pitch for the untapped bracket holes.

Ready to install.

I recently replaced my SRT pump and had to do the same thing. It was a genuine Mercedes part.

Hmm, sounds like a common issue then.

Now I'm not annoyed anymore, it was just a minor inconvenience.

Pump and thermostat are done, test drive is done, coolant top-off is done.

As they say in the Dentists Office...…. NEXT!!!

Holy Cow Batman!! I had a pretty busy morning!!

So yesterday the wife and I were cruising around so she could gather Pokeballs, and she noticed that even though she had her temperature control wheel turned all the way to cold, it was still pumping out blistering hot air!!

After a search on the forum I realized that it must be the coolant "Duovalve" and decided we would head for Pick-N-Pull this morning and grab the valve from the 93k miles XF that was one row away from being crushed. Grabbed the valve and the coolant tank, $18 for both items.

Got home and swapped the valve out, perfect!! The temperature wheels on both sides are working flawlessly. I will take the one I removed apart and check condition and if it can be saved I will clean it up, lube it, and throw it on the spare parts shelf for a later date.

I needed to finish charging the A/C so I got that done and out of the way.

5-6 weeks or so ago, I pulled the steering wheel from the wrecking yard XF (beautiful condition), and swapped that out since my wheel had split stiches and just generally looked like hell.

Got the transmission fluid exchange done. I picked up my TT300 Pro Plus fluid exchange machine on CL a few months ago for $150. I had to go through it and clean it out and make sure all the check valves and what not were working, and they were. 18 quarts of new Pentosin ATF-134. Took it for a test drive and topped it off when I got home.

My intake manifold gaskets and such will be here on Tuesday. I believe we are pretty close to being told to "Shelter in Place" here in Washington. Why Governor Inslee hasn't done it yet is beyond me, my guess is because of Boeing. Boeing is still trying to build airplanes that nobody needs or can really pay for at the moment...… so that is kind of counterproductive in my opinion. Coronavirus is running amuck in the Everett plant as well, they have no masks, no sanitizer, and no hope of ever getting any. Something like 1400 employees are under quarantine....... Enough of that rant.

Enjoy the pictures!! And as always, there will be more to follow!!

Jared

It didn't look like it was when I bought it. It was full of old coagulated fluid and just looked like hell.

I think I spent 8-9 hours tearing it down and putting it back together.

It's paid for itself already though.

Gaskets, breather hoses, and fuel filter showed up today.

Pulled the intake manifold and guess what I found?.....

Left side knock sensor was unplugged (right side in the pictures). I got the connector started, but didn't get it on all the way. As you can see, it is way under there and at an angle.

Gonna get everything cleaned up, I'm going to reseal the breather covers on the valve covers, change out the vacuum lines, and back together it goes.

Took a shot down one of the intake passages, valves are super clean.

Jared

That's why the engine was sold to you so cheap. The seller knew about the issues.
Good job, Jared.

What the hell are you talking about?

I pulled this engine myself from a 2000 ML55 AMG at Gunner's Auto Wrecking in Lake Stevens. I got it "so cheap" because it is a self service yard and they were running a Christmas Special on engines and transmissions.

The knock sensor being unplugged was nobody's fault except my own. Had you have read the entire thread you would have known that the 2000 ML55 uses a Bosch 2.7 ECU, and I had to change the harness so it would be Bosch 2.8 compatible. I also had to update the throttle body.

This was my fault, no one else's. The connection is so far under the intake, I just couldn't get it plugged in all the way.

On another note, I had no idea when I bought this engine if it was actually going to run properly. I inspected everything I could before I pulled it and came to the assumption that something other than the engine caused this ML to wind up in the wrecking yard.

Go back and reread all 3 of my threads, there is a link at the beginning of this thread that takes you there.

Jared
