Default Interior Paint Chiping on Dashboard

I have a 2004 black XFire coupe, two tone grey interior, 18k and the light grey panel on the right side of the dashboard is chipping. I took to the dealer and he recommended his body shop spray paint the panel for $60.00.
Is this a warranty issue and has anyone experienced this with their XF and if so what did you do resolve it?

here's a couple of old threads dealing with this subject.

seems like it is a more noticeable problem with two tone interiors. also note that it was apparently also an issue with the slk.
