Default "Frame" around windshield

Whenever I get a rock chip (too often) in the body paint I touch it up with touch up paint so that it won't rust. I've had a couple of rock hits not in the main body but in the silver colored "frame" (probably not the right word) that all Crossfires have around the windshield. I tried to get touch up paint for that and the dealer said they don't sell it b/c that piece/part is not metal and therefore needn't be touched up because it won't rust. Is this true? I could still touch it up for cosmetic reasons with auto store touch up paint, but I figured if it's not a conducive surface the pain might run. What is this part made out of and do others touch it up with paint?

Try some wheel touch up paint. Do a search on this site there have been mention of it in the last 3 months.

~ cg...

the windshield frame is painted plastic.

i actually have mine protected with 3M film... you may want to add this once you touch it up to prevent further chips.

thru - invinca-shield.com

i have an extra pre-cut film (3 piece) for the surround if you would like it. they sent me an extra. no charge to you...

Andrew, are you happy with the product? Any issues with the application and is there any noticeable change in the appearance?

I guess around the frame is OK. I have used the 3M vinyl on my company trucks. Trust me after 2 or 3 years it might as well be painted on, the only way we could get it off was with an orbital sander and then a repaint.

wow... i have removed film after 5 years... i use a heat gun to loosen adhesive and goo gone to remove remaining residue... no fade or paint damage beneath... truly the paint is like new under the film area.

Has anyone found a slightly more affordable version of this sort of product? The full kit for the crossfire is $533.80 usd and doesn't appear to include the windshield surround... This could get really expensive...

Any other options anyone has experience with?
