Paint
Any one know where I can find Inferno Red touch up paint? I have several minor but visible scratches and don't feel like paying body shops $1000-1500 for minor work.

I got my touch up paint from the dealer, it was $6.00 I believe.
How much paint do you think you'll need?
If I added all the scratches together they'd be the lengh of the car. I was at a garden center and when I came out it looked like some *&^&* head pulled a wagon of bushes against the side of the car. Most are about 4 to 9 inches(about a dozen) but I can see white paint and I catch my finger nail. This has not been my lucky car. Nailed a deer in 2007 and got side swped by a truck backing down my street in Sept.
INFERNO are those pens on that website any good for temporay touch up (til Spring) also do they have an air temperature requirement for use?

Hey Bruce, Sorry to hear about the more bad luck with the XFire. I would try some clear coat polishing compound on it first. The white scratches might just be the clear coat that's scratched. Although it's hard to tell without seeing how bad it is, it might remove most of the scratches.

Not sure what you mean by white paint? If the scratches are through your clearcoat and base coat I think you would see grey primer or bare metal which would indicate need to repaint. But, if the scratches are actually scuffs in the clearcoat they would appear to be white. The reason I ask is that if someone dragged a bush against the car it would most likely scuff or scratch the clearcoat without completely penetrating, unless of course it was a cactus or something with needlelike branches. If you have scuffs or scratches that are contained within the clearcoat, you can buff them out nicely using a clay bar and/or compound. Also, if they are scratches through the clearcoat, I would not recommend using a touch up paint kit to repair the scratches due to their size. The touch up kits don't match color perfectly, and they really aren't intended for anything more than paint chips. A do-it-yourself touch up kit on large scratches may actually look worse than doing nothing.
Thanx Rob & Rob. I buffed the scratches they are thru the rde appears white. On a cloudy day they aren't too bad but in bright sunshine it looks like cat scratches. I must say this is getting annoying as I just got the car out of the body shop end of Sept...not a mark on it, after the run in with the garbage truck (at least the trucking company insurance paid for that). The garden center was having a rose bush sale that day. The pic (from the fight with garbage truck mentioned earlier NOT the scratches) shows the white or lite gray under the paint. They do not go to metal nor any where near as severe. White-v_red contrasts very well...dammit.

hey guys alot of people do not know but most stealershps have mobile paint guys who paint in there parking lots that can fix most any problem with minumum paint...they spray the affected areas then blend the clear and buff and have it back to you same day....and it only cost a fraction of the price of going to a body shop. i know i own one...i actully use them alot when i dont have the time to do some repairs myself. Its always better to look for these guys yourself rather than talking to the guys at the dealer , cause they are going to charge 3 to 400 dollars more than what it really cost them...so next time you stop by the dealer look around and you will probably see a van/ tent in some corner of the dealership parking lot where they do their touch ups....just approach and start dealing...there overhead is minumum so you can usually haggle a price... i have had them do bodywork and paint on multiple panels and only to have it come out to be 300-400 dollars or less.
These pens are OK for little spots using the pen end, which is like a ballpoint pen, if you use the brush end it goes on too thick. I would say that you can compare the paint to nail polish in viscosity. Even the dots of paint I put on need to be leveled down to the body paint height. Using the pen I put on a dot, let it dry and put another beside it and so on, it takes a little time. If you are not careful the repair looks worse than the damage. Level the paint and buff so you blend it in.
