I think you guys have pushed me over the edge.
Without doubt this is the best forum I have ever participated in.
Thanks to Mike and PatPur I have learned more about car detailing than I ever knew I didn't know.
Last night when I got home I noticed my XF needed a little cleaning. Got out the California Duster and dusted it off. Got out the Quick Detailer and in 30 minutes had the car looking good.
Should have quit then, but noticed my wheels had a little dirt on them. Spent an hour with the quick detailer, microfiber towel and many q-tips cleaning the wheels.
All my life I have washed my cars.
All my life I have waxed my cars at least twice a year (now my XF gets waxed a lot more often).
This is the first time I have used a California duster.
This is the first time I have used quick detailer.
But I never in my wildest dreams thought I would spend an hour detailing wheels.
My Porsches never such treatment.
My Crossfire will probably get such treatment till the day I die. Maybe I can arrange to be buried in it and can have a permanent grin forever.

It's all your fault.
I thought my car was looking okay until I saw (and felt) PatPur's. Now I need to clay and wax, clay and wax, ......

Hey MIKE - I was thinking about you today when I was clay barring my wife's Mercedes with my water bottle! I must have so much polish on the car the clay works with the water spray.
I'm gonna have to watch the glot when he's around my car!

I remember reading a cartoon in mad magazine back in the 60's. It showed a guy detailing his car non stop while his neighbors talked of how he always waxes it but never drives it. Then they're shocked to see him actually get in it and start to drive off. They ask him where he's going and he replies, "to the store; I ran out of wax!".....seems rather applicable now to me

Oh my, another victim. Well, after spending 2 weekends getting the car near perfect, I can identify with the obsessed. I don't want to have to do that again for a while. To avoid having to spend (I won't say how many hours) getting every swirl and blemish out, I have the plushest microfiber made. I don't "dry" the car, I blot with the softest waffle towels money can buy. I wash the car before it's dirty and use detail spray several times a week. Good thing I'm already married.
