Tire Shine Sling
No, basically every type of tire shine will sling, no matter how you drive.
I've found only one that wont sling no matter what.
Long-Lasting Tire Dressing, 16 Ounces - Cleaners - Wheels & Tires - Car Care - Griot's Garage
griots sells it, its the consistency of tempura paint, you apply it with a sponge and it covers like shoe polish.
Doesnt sling, come off, ever... its waterproof, sling proof, fling proof, you have to wash the car to get it off the tires.
We've used it on the Z06 since we bought it, it will even survive track days without slinging

The best tire dressing I've used is from Stoner's. Spray it on a foam aplicator and rub it in. I think the problem with any spray on is if you just spray it and dont rub it in it will get on your paint. The key is rubbing it in.
Stoners advertises their wont sling even if you just spray it on. Adams is also coming with a new product, watched the demo on that yesterady and it looks really nice, its water based and pretty much water proof at the same time. I'll pick up a bottle when I'm in Carlisle and try it but for right now I'm a Stoner's fan.

I've had extremely good luck with Meguiar's Hot Tire Shine, aerosol.
Sprays on like paint, LOL... I only spray enough to get the tires shiny, not glossy.
No slings thus far.
FWIW, their regular spray bottle (windex style bottle) is garbage... I hated it, and if your use an applicator, it immediately dulls down.
Aerosol is the best. They used to have an adjustable nozzle for low-pro tires, but I haven't seen that in a few months...
Mike, any info?

My daughter got me some of this for my birthday and I love it:
Z-16 Perfect Tire Gloss: Zaino Store
You pour it on a rag and wipe it on the tires - looks like skim milk and there is no excess to sling off. You can do 2 coats for more shine...

To the original poster, I usually just buy what ever brand of tire gel is on sale, wipe it on with a cloth and I have never had any issues with tire sling no matter what brand i have used. I suppose if I were to apply it to the tires like cake frosting then immediately drive off it may sling all over the car lol.

Meguire's Endurance Gold (tire GEL)
Put some on a rag and wipe into tires. Leaves a nice semi-gloss finish, nothing too shiny, and as long as put on in moderation (you do not need much) it looks great and will not sling. Lasts over a week and comes off with minimal ease if you get onto rims.....

I've had good luck with the meguiars and mothers products, everything else seems to suck. I always wipe down mine as well to get the excess off and to give the tire a more matte finish rather than that dripping wet look
Im not sure either, some people like that mirror look.
The one thing tire shine does do is protect the rubber, it keeps the sidewalls from suffering uv damage (when they turn brown)

meguiars.com: FAQ - Which Meguiar's products should I use on my tires?
"The science behind the modern rubber formulas used by major tire manufactures today is both complex and interesting. The rubber itself contains and ingredient called Antiozonant. Antiozonant is an ingredient that helps to prevent the exterior rubber surface from cracking, checking, oxidizing, and deteriorating. The rubber is designed in such a way as to constantly work its way to the outside of the tire and as such, continually replenish the exterior surface with fresh antiozonant.

This is why you see a brown film on the surface your tires. You can wash your tires with soap or an all-purpose cleaner and remove this film, but in a few weeks, it's back. That's because the antiozonant continually works its way to the outside of the tires every time you drive your car."

I guess if you had a brown car you could just leave them be and have matching tires and car. I don't like mine glossy either that's why I rub it in. Just a nice dull new looking black sidewall. Another reason to use an applicator is you wont get those halo's on your driveway or garage floor.
