Has any one tried the new Armor All Wheel portectant? Does it work? If it works 1/2 they say is might be worth it. Theses SRT wheels are a chore.

Search ....... WHAT BRAKE DUST?

 

Brake dust is a PIA but I don't think any kind of wheel gunk is your answer. There are two things you can do. 1 is a set of Rotex Gold pads or similar type brake pads. They cut way down on the brake dust and will end a lot of that issue. The other part of it is properly cleaning your wheels. I have a rat tail brush that is around a foot long, it works on just about any wheel, including the PIA Srt wheels. Its important to get the back of the wheel clean as well as the front and with this brush you can do that easily each time you wash your car. A lot of dust/dirt collects behind the wheel spokes and makes its way to the front of the wheel. Every so often I even pull my wheels and clean thoroughly and polish the back side of the wheel. The wheel brush is available from Solo Horton Brushes. They are on the web. You can buy 3-4 of them for under $25.

Thanks for the info. I was at the store and there are 2 products out (armorall + eagle one) The armorall was 8.50 and the E1 was on sale @$3.99. I pincked up the E1 product. I will post back how it works. I still have 3/4 on the org pads and waiting to replace w/ a up graded pad. thanks for the info.

 

I have heard that the Armorall product actually does work.
Why would you grab the cheap one (Eagle One)? If there is something magical in the Armorall like it nearly claims, don't you think you're going to have to spend a whole $8.50 for it????? I guess you're lucky they didn't have any in the 99cent bin!

I drove 1800 miles from SoCal to St Louis for the Crossfires Across America event and there was only minor dirt/dust build up on the front wheels of my SRT6. They were still mostly silver when I arrived. Close to the same as the residue on the rear wheels (light residue).

I followed the directions carefully. Clean the wheels throroughly (I use a cloth and an inexpensive sponge brush) You have to spray the entire wheel (both sides of the spokes etc.) then let the wheels sit and dry for at least an hour (actually, I let it sit over night).

When you do wipe the wheels, you WILL wipe off the protectant and need to reapply, but this stuff really does work.

 

Rapp's - that's the brush. I always buy 4-5 and end up giving them away. They really work well.

Montana , Not one bit of helpful information in your whole post. Why did you waste your time to read + coment? Anyway I did not know E1 made such a product and I have had better luck with E1 over armorall products so I gave them a try.
The product sprayed on clear then turned white haze like the lable said it would. The coating did not get back to clear after drying but had a light milky haze. 3 days + 375 miles later the rims are still clean. The coating does look lighter now. From up close the rims look a little dull but from a distance they look way better with the treatment than they would all dusted up.

 

Six and tighed1 arrived in St. Louis with their wheels looking very good. I will give the new Armoral product a try...SRT wheels are a PITA...

Ditto on the annual removal with a good cleaning and waxing, both sides. Ditto on replacing oem brake pads with low-dust. There is very little build up and normal washing removes it.

 

Ok, I have been using this product for the last couple months and have been very impressed with the results until yesterday......I washed the car and treated the wheels but then sprayed the tires with Maguires Insane Tire shine which I recently purchased. (Previously I have applied a tire dressing with a sponge). Anyway, I drove the car for about 100 miles and was dissapointed to see the wheels now covered in brake dust. More brake dust than previous periods of even a couple thousand miles. It appears that although I was very carefull to limit the tire shine overspray onto the rims, it is enevitable to happen and this is what collects the brake dust. So, for the ArmourAll Rim Protectant to work properly, I will have to go back to applying the tire dressing with a sponge.

 

I've tried the Armoral product and while it does work, you need to make sure you spray evenly and completely. If you miss portions of the wheel, you actually have brake dust migrate towards the untreated sections. While I think it does work and may help retard the brake dust collection, to me it's not worth the price. I just clean my front wheels more regularly (these are alot easier than the wheels on my Bonneville).

As for the better fix --- I'd go with what others on the forum have suggested with regard to the type of brake pads that can help.
