It's part of my Friday ritual. Get off work, get out of uniform, maybe go for a run, wash/wax the car then off to the drag strip with some friends.
The last car I treated like that was my red, 92 Mercury Capri rag top turbo. Every weekend, wash, dry, and wax. I loved doing it. Kind of a Zen thing. I lived in Napa Valley then, and it looked good for the whole week. Now I'm on a gravel road in Vt., with a black car. It won't look good for long. I got the XF just a couple weeks before the snow, and only washed it once B4 it's long winter nap. This winter is getting OLD!
Taking care of the car including washing is a labor of love. Although all the comments from strangers at gas stations, resturants and even at stop lights are nice the real pay off is after you are finished and take that long slow walk around the car and drink in the beauty of the Crossfire.
You really get to know every detail of a car by washing it. I have often thought that should be part of the process of buying a car. Can you imagine the look on a salesmans face when you say I have almost made my decision but I need to wash the car first.

I think when I was younger and that was my biggest asset it was important to me to have my car look good. NOW that I am older, much older, I still think all my assets are important and I want them to look good and be taken care of. So those early committments to take care of the things you invest in paid off. I keep my house looking good, my vehicles, bikes, and if I could just now figure how to make this 59 year old man look even 40 again, I would be set....lol...
I love washing the cars so much, that when we had to have our garage floor replaced, I had them put in a floor drain. Now, in the dead of winter, I can wash the cars in the garage! Just put on a little music, hook up the hose, and I've got all I need in my man cave!
I spend hours and hours keeping my stuff clean detailed and looking great. It's like someone else said it's a zen thing, it relaxes me and gives me a lot of pleasure. I have a '99 Jeep Cherokee that has never spent a single night in garage and that has been off-road a lot that still looks brand new inside and out. In 2006 I took it to a Jeep Jamboree and it was covered in mud top to bottom, two weeks later it won a trophy in a car show. The XF I just bought is going to be an entirely different challenge. It's the first black car I have owned in my almost 60 years and like the Jeep it does not have a garage to sleep in. Unlike the Jeep I intend to store it during the winter months.
I take pride in keeping my home and cars looking their best...I worked hard for them. So of course I get pleasure out of giving my Xfire a bath.

Cleaning and maintaining my collection of over 30 cars is the most therapeutic experience I can think of. A lot can be going wrong in my life, but all I need is a dirty car, my cleaning/waxing supplies and a nice day and all my troubles magically disappear. Cleaning the car takes me to another "place".
