HDDP, find a reliable company who might be interested to build it for us just like the www.ctd-germany.com chrome mesh grill. I can help run emails to most active or nominal members here (around 2,000) to support the project.

I think with the high demand (i mean hundreds of emails), some companies might consider building it for us. It's a proven law for supply and demand!

We'll just give it a try since we have proven it that it works in the www.ctd-germany.com chrome mesh grill!

HDDP over at the other forums they had one member who had downpipes made for his custom headers... but to keep costs down he made a deal with the shop (germany) to retain the plans (pattern) of the pipes so that other members can purchase the down pipes... in the end the downpipes were free as he became sponsored by the shop... maybe you can pitch this idea to them as well???

i am sure you are setting a trend here for the XF community so they may take the offer. ...just an idea.

ATRIUS... did you say guns??? heheheheh.

HEADERS NO WORKIE !

Back to the drawing board, the Super Sprint headers for the C320 do not work on the Crossfire. After fiddling with them yesterday we realized that the pipe length is too short back to the collector and the down angle is wrong for our cars, putting the flange at the collector end directly at the housing for the flywheel.

I guess I'll have to get back on the phone and see if I can find a resource for custom headers.

Argh! That's a real downer. Is there really no way to cut and weld them to suit? Can you send them back for a refund?

We looked at modifying them to fit, but it would be more of a pain than it's worth. They are going to refund the cost. I'm stepping out now to ship them back.

Not a real surprise they did not fit. All indications I had for the C class headers were that they would not work.

Did you contact HOP to discuss their headers?

And there is just no way you guys can go to a local machine shop that cuts and bends tubes and tell them you would like to have a set of headers built for your v6 engine... you already know thats how engine swaps are done... ok so I'm kinda just jumping in here, but you pay people who can do the kind of work you need done and BOOM you got a set of custom built headers for your Crossfire, I'm going to track on that approach in a few months... that is how I plan to do it. hooah

Firebase: Unfortunately that's what I'm going to have to do. Thankfully I found a company that is deeply involved in the racing community (not the wannbe tuner community) that is willing to work with me on this project. I was duly impressed by the fact that they have their own race engine spec form to fill out so the can do an engineering reference and flow analysis on the design.

The company is called Burns Stainless. I have uploaded the "race engine spec form" for the Crossfire for those of you who may need it in the future. Even though they are going to spec out the pipes, mergers, collectors etc, I will still have to hire someone to build the headers. I will keep everyone posted...

It's a work in progress and my bank account is only so deep !!!

Are you going to get them Jet-Coated before you install them.

You can certainly do that. It just takes finding the right shop, taking your car in for a couple of weeks for fitting and production, and ~ $3k-$4k.

That really sucks!!! I hate that feeling > you find something and then you find out you found something that doesn't work!!! Glad to see that you are willing to take chances. I'm still going to get the turbo route. The STS system will work, it's just a matter of time...work, work, work...my feet hurt!

It was a crap shoot anyway, I knew they would fit the engine, but not sure about the clearances and the bends. The guys at Super Sprint were hoping they would work too, they wanted to sell them to Crossfire Owners.

Back to the drawing board.

HDDP,

I'm sorta new here, but have been in the performance industry for over 20 years. Burns has a terrific name, but I would personally be wary of stainless headers on a SC app car. The heat cycling that would occur makes T304 very brittle, and they WILL crack over time.

There are alot of performance exhaust companies in So Cal, you might try hitting a few of them up about building a run of headers. I am HEAVILY involved in the Dakota RT group (was president of the club...) and we have had a few people that have gone out and had small runs of custom parts made for us (Fuel rails, headers, TB's etc etc... So I know what you are up against.

Try Spintech, they were the ones who did our larger tube headers. Also a company called Leach performance (San Diego IIRC) who was building most of the headers for Mopar Performance.

Mild Steel, and coated, you should be able to come in under $1K easily... We were getting our coated V8 headers for 700 ish.

edit: Try Cometic gaskets for your header/collector gaskets too... impregnated mesh type gaskets that work really well, and they can custom make them to spec.

If you can get them for under $1k I think you would find a fairly large number of takers.

Thanks Danno: The car is N/A not S/C and I have the car in for caging right now and will not be out for at least a month.
