Default Catalytic removal, straight pipe project

Well, this is gonna be my next project for the Crossfire. It will probably take me a really long time to complete due to the fact that classes just started up at CSULB.

I just ordered the simulator from: http://www.o2sensorsimulator.com/
It only cost me $24.99.

Next I'm going to have to order some stainless steet pipe from Mc Master Carr, sorry no price on this yet, I'm guessing it won't be cheap, nor will it be easy to make with out having a nice 2-4 post lift. I'm also gonna remove that one smashed oval pipe that Y's into the resonators.

It's too bad I can't get paid to do this stuff... To be continued...

Here's the wiring schematic:

there are 4 cats on the car, I WOULD NOT recommend removing all 4!!!

take off 2, and put on a muffler of your choice, it is loud as hell...trust me.

Wow I didn't know there where 4? I thought those two small cans at the back where resonators?

Anyways, I'm just removing the two up front at the exhaust manifolds, and then removed the one factory pipe that's oval shaped and flattened out.

How does it sound with only two Cats removed?

I have a custom dual system w/2.5" pipe, removed cats, new bung for 02 sensors, race mufflers. Total fabrication and installation was $600 by Morse Muffler in Burbank CA. I believe they made a template from mine for future use.

Not recommended for street use !

Don't forget that there are 4 O2 sensors too. You may be able to use the signal from the simulator to feed all 4 but I think you may end up with OBD codes being thrown since the sensors either side of the CAT are looking for a differential to determine efficiency. You definitely need to keep the heaters connected like the schematic shows since the ECU checks for heater function and O2 signal, and you get a separate code thrown respectively.

I will just be using the simulator to operate the signal for the two rear sensors, since the two front sensors will be feeding the computer information for the fuel map, I don't want to touch those or else all I'll have a real drivability problem.

i do offer my piece of advice: just remove the back two and throw on an exhaust -- i don't know what state you live in, but if you do smog tests you will fail, with my setup (just removed the back 2 and a flowmaster exhaust). here area a few clips.

car at startup about 5 feet behind car:

this one is me going from a 5 mph roll to 110 or so, device being held on console:

and here's another.
this is a launch and run to 75 or so:

Wow, that does sound loud, that was recorded from inside the car?

I don't have any intentions of removing the stock muffler, since I do like the note of the sound which it makes.

I think I'll take your advise and remove the two rear resonators first. then I'll see what it sounds like, from there I'll replace the flattened oval exhaust pipe.

Thanks for those clips!

Well after reviewing the parts number pdf. it looks like I won't have to make any CAT, straight pipes, part number for export delete pipes is; right (5101 597AA) - left (5101 598AA) .

I'll have to stop by the dealer soon and see if they'll even order it, and see how much...

Of course.

You can't remove the resonators and cats and still hope to maintain a stock exhaust note.

Yes you're right, but currently I feel it's a little mute sounding and would be perfect if it could be just a little more outspoken when I get on it!

I don't disagree with you there at all, I'm just saying don't be disappointed if it turns out to be a little too loud with the rear cats and resonators removed.

Personally, I'm just going to go with the Borla set-up. Though it's costly, it is a stainless steel system with a warranty that is a direct bolt-on replacement, meaning no chopping, welding, etc.
