Borla fitment on SRT?
Hey guys, first post! I've been reading a lot of awesome information on here; you guys seem to have a really nice community here. I've been EXTREMELY interested in picking up a Crossfire, but I'm really on the line as to whether to get the SRT or the Limited. Either way I'm going with a coupe. My only reason for NOT getting the SRT would be the inability to use it. Traffic where I live is INSANE. If it's after 4:00 in the evening, it would be safe to say it would take you an hour to cross a town which is only about ten miles wide.
So now that you guys have heard the longest intro ever, lol, I have a tech question about the SRT. Would the Borla exhaust (or any, for that matter) bolt on to the SRT Coupe, or would I be left to build a custom one? I REALLY want to avoid making my own, or having a speed shop fab one up on a car of this "class". I am pretty sure the SRT model has a bigger exhaust from the factory than the Limited Coupe, is this correct? I'm also aware that the Borla wouldn't really gain me anything in HP, it would be more of a sound thing for me. I've driven a sport truck for the last seven years, so I would feel weird driving a car w/o a nice rumble.
Thanks guys for your help. I'm looking forward to buying my Crossfire later this year! Just trying to do some homework first, LOL.

Awesome... I was really hoping it would, because I'm currently using a Borla muffler on my vehicle and I love the note it has. I also was wanting to get something in a kit that would have an OEM fit and finish, not something pieced together with weird welds all over it, LOL.
I would absolutely LOVE to get the SRT if I can swing the monthly. I really like the other enhancements to the SRT, like the seats, better brakes, and the more rigid suspension. And although optimistic, the 200 mph speedo no doubt looks pretty.
My reference to the traffic was the difficulty to actually enjoy it, LOL. Perhaps with the SRT I could do 8 miles per hour, instead of 6...hehehe.
Although once I made it to the freeway it would be all gravy.
I figured now would be the best time in my life to get a coupe like this. No wife, no kids, and no plans for either until at least a FEW years from now.
So you regularly get 20+ MPG in town? That's freaking awesome considering the power of these things...

Hello JHM2K and welcome.
I'm a new Xfire owner and I went with an '05 Limited Coupe and am very pleased.
13Dog and I are both in your area. I'm in Nashville.
So also check out the "Tennessee" thread(s).

Good deal man, I'll have to say hi in those. LOL didn't even notice they were down there...
I'm going to make every effort to get an SRT, but I am dead-set on the Sapphire Silver color, and finding one (cheap) in an SRT is proving to be a problem. I've found dozens of Limited Coupes in that color, with basically everything else I would need/want. I honestly don't know if I could restrain myself in the SRT... LOL... cops already know me pretty well from my truck hahaha.

Well here is a gray SRT6 coupe.

I have seen new SRT6's going in the low 30's...
It does depend on your budget. Yes, local law enforcement
know the car but I don't know if they understand
what is under the hood. Definitely don't drink and drive with
this beast. As you know they built about 3,000 SRT's, about
925 are roadster's. Will be unique...

That's a beautiful one right there... it would be a nice road trip to go get it.
Thanks for the link.
In an ideal scenario, I'd like to find one (SRT) for around $26-$27K and then put about $10K down on it, thus only financing like $16K.
But I can't help but be tempted by the Limited; I've seen dozens of those around here in the high teens, BEFORE negotiating... either way I'm putting $10K down. Of course, if I buy the Limited I could afford a lot of goodies (Wheels, tires, Eibach springs, etc.) to put on it, too. Hmmm... LOL.

Go for the SRT....it just costs too much to make the Limited perform like an SRT. I live in SoCal and know all about heavy traffic. The auto-stick in the SRT offers convenience while not draining power.
Drive one and you will be hooked. By the way the SRT makes all kinds of sweet sounds. The supercharger and exhaust notes are music to the ears and the performance will keep a permanent smile on your face!

Haha you do make a good point. I've driven Cobras in the past that were N/A and could haul major ***, but you get behind the wheel of a blown '03 Cobra and it's another symphony altogether...
My absolute *perfect* Crossfire would be the SRT, in the light silver (SSB) color, with the Lorinser LM6 wheels... that would be freaking amazing.
I'm going to play with some financing calculators and see what I come up with... If I can get out the door for around 16-17K on an SRT I'm definitely game.
SRT's have bigger brakes and all as well, right? Plus you gotta love the seats...

I'd go for the SRT-6 if you can swing it, you will not be disappointed, but if you get the limited, you may wish you opted for more power down the road.
I know there are a lot of people on here that wish they had more power now after owning their limiteds for a while.
Yes the seats are cool, the brakes are bigger, the wheels are different and a little lighter, sport tuned suspension, the exhaust, then there's the front bumper, the high down force spoiler, and the most important of all...the supercharged AMG engine.
As for the Borla...
Unless they came out with a second system for the SRT-6, which I doubt, then they don't have one out for the SRT-6.
As far as I know they only have one system listed and its for the regular Crossfire, not the SRT-6, which IS a different system.
My past 4 cars have had aftermarket exhaust systems and at first I was disappointed when I found out there was no options for the SRT-6.
But...after owning mine for some time now, Im quite happy with the stock system. Its actually nice to have a quite system that doesn't draw attention all the time, but it does still have a nice sound when getting on it.
I don't miss the annoyingly loud systems anymore at all, especially when cruising down the highway while trying to listen to the stereo or talk on phone lol.

Right now I'm running a high-flow cat setup, with a Borla SI/SO 2.5" muffler, and it does drone a bit in lower RPMS.
I was thinking the SRT had a different exhaust... b/c I remember typing SRT in the catalogue filter on a performance site, and as long as SRT was in the mix, the Borla never showed up. When I changed it back to the Limited coupe, it was then in the listing.
Does anyone know the difference in the exhausts? Is it strictly the diameter, or is there another resonator involved?
Thanks for all the help guys.
BTW, here are some pics of my truck that I keep mentioning...

Some quick stats:
2000 Ranger XLT Supercab 2WD 4R44E Transmission
3" Front/4" Rear lowering
Explorer 8.8" axle conversion (31 spline locker, 3.73 ratio)
Saleen Racecraft springs/shocks/swaybars
Saleen Instrument Cluster
Saleen graphics package ($300 believe it or not, LOL)
Saleen 18x9 Speedline wheels with 255/40/18 W-rated tires
Custom Borla 2.5" race muffler setup
Roush Performance Cold Air Intake
Denso Iridium spark plugs
Mild Port & Polish work done on intake
Spicer Aluminum Driveshaft
Powerslot Rotors (rear)
Hawk brake pads (all around)
She's done me well... but I'm looking for something faster, and classier... I figured I'd sell this thing while it's still got some life to it, and let someone buy a sport truck with a nice start, yet still mild enough to allow them to simply add to it instead of undoing everything....
LMK what you guys think

If I remember correctly, the regular Crossfire doesn't have a resonator before the muffler, but it does have a Y-pipe immediately after the cats, making the duel exhaust into a single, then it goes to the muffler.
I could be wrong, it might have a resonator, but if it does, its only a single in/out version.
The SRT on the other hand, has a true duel set up going from the cats to the resonator...then it exits the resonator with a bigger single pipe that connects to the muffler. So the SRT resonator acts like the Y-pipe.
The Borla system added a resonator just like the SRT except it has only one inlet pipe that connects to the factory Y-pipe of the regular Crossfire.

^^^ Good stuff...
So the really our only option for changing the note of the SRT (if one felt the need) would be to tack on a muffler and try to get it lined up as well as possible... hmmm...

I've seen an article where someone just took off the resonator and built their own Y-pipe in place of the resonator.
You get to loose one of the restrictions in the system, loose some weight, add some sound, and keep the stock muffler/tips.
Some day I'll probably go this route, but right now I'm content with the stock sound, keeping it quite like a sleeper.
I like making fools of loud and obnoxious Mustangs and Camaros that try and race me.

Sleepers are fun... LOL. And when I buy a Crossfire, I'm not going to want to make it very loud, regardless of how fast it is... one of the biggest reasons I'm looking at the Crossfire AT ALL is because it comes across as a classy vehicle, one that you would be comfortable taking to formal events and whatnot. If I was just wanting cheap speed, I'd buy a '93 Mustang LX and throw $4,000 towards the engine, and have a beast.
But I dig the "class" that the Crossfire has about it. IMO it looks like a sportscar that's wearing a tuxedo. In black, of course.
I work at Nissan Manufacturing in Smyrna, and we get AWESOME deals on the 350 Z and the Infiniti G35 Coupe. Honestly, it would make a lot more sense financially to get one of those, but I am simply tired of seeing them. I literally see 45-60 a day coming into and leaving work.
I have YET to see an SRT-6. Only two of the Limited Coupes... LOL. Now you see why I want one.
