Default Oil filter gasket?

My local dealer wants $60 for the whole oil filter assembly. They claim that's all that's available from Chrysler. The next closest dealer is a Mercedes dealer 45 miles away. They have the filters for $18.50, but want $1.16 for a gasket. Is there a different gasket besides the 4 o-rings, or are they just selling them separately? The only reference to gaskets I see on the forum is for the o-rings. Just wanted to know what to expect before driving down there this weekend.

Order your filters (that include gaskets/o-rings) online. I just bought 2 for ~ $30 from chryslerpartsdirect.com, ~ $40 w/shipping.

Thanks. I looked on their website and they only list one for $7.22 which I assume is the old paper one. I'll give them a call to make sure I get the fleece one.

The "gasket" they may be referring to might actually be the crush washer for the oil drain plug. The O-rings should be included with the filter. BTW, tell your "dealer" that he's smokin' crack. You don't have to buy the whole filter housing assembly just to change the filter.

I'm not sure if he's stupid or just trying to rip me off. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and go with stupid.

LOL... it really is too bad that most dealership service managers are inept when it comes to most things concerning cars, especially with such a rare car.

The filter does come with all the O-rings you need.
