To Chip or Not to Chip - That is the Question??
I'm relatively new to this Forum so I'm sure this has been answered some time in the past.
I have 2 new 3.2 ltr non-supercharged Crossfires. Both are stick.
Is chipping the ECU going to give me significant gains I can feel in horsepower and/or throttle response?
I've compared various brands of chips and they all seem to claim the same flywheel horsepower and torque gains with some improvement in throttle.
response.
I live in Orange County, California so I have the luxury of going directly to the companies that do the modifications. Let me know if there is a favorite company. Seeing that I do live in California, it is also important that I pass smog.

Brian

a search of the previous posts on this topic will reveal a 20 hp and tq gain to the floor by a tune from Speed Innovation ... which by all accounts is a staggering gain on a naturally aspirated engine from a retune ... although you have the luxury of being near some of these companies you should be careful as i hear the gas is rather poor in octane in CA with 91 being max most places ... so do your research on available gas near you before the tune as some are done for 93 minimum.
A chip/software reflash is probably the best bang for the buck. I don't think you can get 93 octane in CA so you gains might be a little less. Ask questions to see what a company can change, such as eliminating any speed governor and raising the redline a little. Most of the HP gain is from timing and mixture.
