Default Is this fuel filter for our car ACDELCO Part # GF893 {#89034698}??

The fuel filters are really expensive for these cars starting at around $70.00. I have a 04 coupe with 34,000 miles and was thinking of changing a fuel filter. This one ACDELCO Part # GF893 {#89034698}
FILTER,FUEL was shown at few websites for our car. Will this fuel filter fit the Crossfire?

FYI -- just received one of these AC-Delco units, via RockAuto.com, for just under US$35 including shipping. Had a 5% off coupon -- check retailmenot.com, etc. for coupon codes.

The filter is huge!

Just replaced my fuel filter -- pic above of the old and new. This is looking from the rear of the car toward the front, but on the right (US=passenger's) side.

This was _not_ a job for a novice. Very dangerous due to a couple of cups of gas coming out of the old filter and fuel lines.

Today was probably the last warm day here for six or so months, so I did this so that I could have lots of ventilation (exhaust fans) going during the job, and for hours afterward.

Jacked using my floor jack under the rear differential and then put jack stands under the rear rocker lift points. Wheel chocks installed on both front wheels after. Didn't need to remove any tires.

About 1.5 hours total, but more difficult than expected. First, the plastic shield, shown on the garage floor above, wouldn't drop easily because a press-in connector, from below, wouldn't release. Didn't want to break it, so I removed the 10mm bolt holding its black metal bracket to the body. There's also three 10mm nuts holding the shield on, and one is 9 inches straight up at the top of the left-rear support bracket of the shield.

Then the two largest fuel lines didn't want to come off the old filter -- it was a battle, with gas dripping out (catch pan was below, but ...).

Besides the filter, you (too) will need four small worm clamps to replace the factory crimped rings. The old ones released by squeezing the sides of their heads with a set of pliers.

Again, very dangerous. "Don't try this at home".

That is a good price. When I checked NAPA, they wanted around $65. James

You should state that before changing the filter they should release the pressure and use some of the gas in the line as stated in the shop manual. We wouldn't want to lose a Crossfire and driver in a ball of flame.
The no smoking rule applies as well.

See shop manual for further details and pictures.

From the Shop Manual
1. Remove the fuel filler tube cap.

2. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the relay control module (3) located next to the PCM.
3. Start and run engine until it stalls.
4. Attempt restarting engine until it will no longer run.
5. Turn ignition key to OFF position.
6. Return the fuel pump fuse to the relay control module.
7. One or more Diagnostic Trouble Codes may have been stored in PCM memory due to fuel pump fuse removal.
The DRB III
T scan tool must be used to erase a DTC.

Note: Place a shop towel around fuel lines to catch any excess fuel during disassembly.
4. Remove the fuel filter/pressure regulator degassing line (1).
5. Remove the fuel rail supply line (3) at the fuel filter/pressure
regulator.
6. Remove the fuel delivery hose.
7. Remove the fuel return hose at the fuel filter/pressure regulator.
8. Remove the clamp retaining screw and remove the fuel filter/pressure regulator.

I would prefer to NOT pull the fuse if it sets a DTC code. Finding the right scan tool to erase the code could be a hassle for some.

I release the pressure using the test port on the engine. You can release the pressure into a rag or use a hose and drain into a can.

Nice info - however buy the tool made to release the factory clamps - it is unbelievable how easy they are to remove and replace. Easier and faster than the screw clamps and they do not strip out.
(Get a ratchet model that holds tha clamps open, I also got a cable type so you can reach just about any clamp) Worth every penny.

just did this on friday. lucky me i work for a dealer so i had a nice lift to see what i was doing. took me 40mins most of that time was screwing around with the plastic fastner.... i got tired of messing with it so i just cut it off and replaced it with an almost identical one. i was able to remove the original clamps with a flat head and everything else was a breeze just be prepared for alot of pouring gas. good LUCK! it can be done!

James, can you take a picture of where the fuel-pressure test-port is located on the engine?

Does he have this apparatus connected to it? https://www.needswings.com/fuel-pressure-gauge-fittings

Can anyone tell me what the name of this tool is for "magically" releasing and (I assume) installing factory fuel-hose clamps is?

I have 4 regular type G hose clamps directly securing the fuel filter that can be released using normal tools. The thing is if you squeeze/pinch most of the fuel injection hoses you'll notice age/drying cracks in them and that they've hardened with age, so I was thinking of perhaps replacing many of these as well once I've looked up the part numbers and prices. BTW my naked eye tells me this looks like 5/16" fuel-injection hose, custom-molding notwithstanding. Is that correct? Has someone already researched the part numbers for all these hoses already, or will I have the fun all to myself?

Unless I am mistaken (again) the correct fuel filter has a pressure regulator inside it. A simple filter is not going to do the job. Get the correct part the first time as parts may not be returnable due to the virus concerns.

Rock Auto has it listed also ACDELCOGF893{#89034698}Professional

I just ordered what the OP mentioned in this post because these are all things I am needing to do to my XF. Amazon had it as correct also but before I tear the car apart I will double check. I get free returns and have a room full needing to be sent back anyway. Thanks, I just started looking after reading up on it and found one with a damaged box for less than 9 bucks.

I sense a "Dr. Phil" moment coming up.

As Dave said:
The fuel filter in our cars is ALSO what sets pressure. The ECM has NO CLUE what the pressure is, is assumes is it right. SO, if it is NOT right, the amount of fuel injected is way off.

Buying a cheap generic filter makes no sense to me. Rob sells the RIGHT part for $49 (I ordered one last week from him, in fact). Do you want to run the risk of wrestling that damn thing on there and end up ordering ANOTHER one, because the one you ordered is not right?

If you want to save money you should buy a used one. I have one for the price of a stamp.
Just pulling your leg.
I like the look of your bikes.👍

Heck Yeah . . I thought I was getting a deal when I googled it and found a "used" very nice condition AC Delco filter that OP had mentioned. When the listing states "ONLY ONE LEFT" I pull the trigger regardless of what it fits! We shall see what shows up. Thanks, I really dig the old bikes and have WAY to many so pick a color and lets get you a Honda!

I am new to these cars and will do some more research before I tackle the project, thanks for the heads up. AC Delco looks just like the 50 dollar filter others sell so I went ahead and bought one of each, just to be safe. I dont think Rock Auto would have it listed as correct if it did not do the job of the stock filter but you never know. Just to be safe I bought another one for 7.28 ! It make no difference to me if the box is damaged when i am only using the filter.

I had a 1979 or 1980 Maroon XS1100, the big brother. I think it came with a fairing and maybe even bags but this bike was naked. It had a Specialist II 1288cc Big Bore Kit and a BIG LOUD PiPE...When you really got on it the thing would BOW up like a Tom Cat because of the drive shalt Ended up wrecking it with shorts and flipflops

and that was the end of that bike! I will keep an eye out, I know a few places with over 400 bikes .I did want to be clear on the filter. USED on Amazon means the box may be ripped but the item is new . . .
