Coming home from the grind today, pulled into the ATM lane at the bank and felt a weird vibration and noise coming from under the hood. Pulled out into the parking lot and raised the hood. It appears the rubber core around the damper has come apart and the only thing holding the pulley on the shaft was the belt. Luckliy I was only about a mile from the house and I limped it home.

Anyone else have this happen ??? And does anyone know the part number to the vibration damper assy ? Is it a Benz part or do I have to deal with Chrysler on this one ? HELP !

 

scary, I'm starting to question the quality of Mercedes benz vehicles now.

My alternator is starting to make a strange noise, kinda like the bearings are bad.

I called Mercedes of Austin and they're pretty sure they have a replacement to match. I've found that the same part from Mercedes is usually a good deal cheaper than from Chrysler and the folks at M of A are great folks to deal with, although they're starting to know me by name, "Oh you're the guy with the Crossfire aren't ya " ?

 

Yea they are prone to break, very very common. If the price is close to the lightweight one we sell, I'd suggest just getting that one. It's better made and lighter. Our price is 499.00 shipped, so if Mercedes quotes you close to that let me know.

Mercedes is quoting me 108 bucks + tax for just the damper assy. I suppose with a new seal I'm looking at a hundred and a half.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN !!! 135 bucks, a new front cover seal and vibration damper from Benz we be cruising once again
I chit chatted with the parts guy at Benz and he told me it's not unusual for the damper on this engine to come apart, they had 4 of the buggers in stock, what does that tell ya ? So heads up people, feel any kinda weird vibration all of a sudden
