Default Going with Magnaflow 12148

I said screw the cheap muffler and went with the Magnaflow and putting the stock tips back on. I figure I'd better be safe than sorry and I'd probably end up hating the cheap one after I put it on. I like the stock tips too.

I ordered Magnaflow 12148 its non-polished stainless with 2 1/4" in and dual 2" out which im pretty sure is the stock size in and out. 5"x8" oval case 14" long. It gets put on tuesday.

Had a whole cat back made so I still have the stock exhaust intact for later. She sounds amazing. Best $200 I've spent in a while.

That looks really nice! Do you have any detailed shots of the exhaust?

What size is your pipe and do you have any drone?

Post a sound clip if you can so everyone can refer to it when they are looking to upgrade their exhaust later down the road.

HI,

-Was it easy to install?
-Did you just buy the Magnaflow 12148 or did you have to buy other parts also for it?
-Does it mke a better sound than the OEM muffler?
Finally: what is the difference between the cat back and the Magnaflow 12148?

I am looking to find a good muffler that will make a nice sound. But I am not ready to buy a cat-balck because it costs more than 1000$ in Finland. The Magnaflow 12148 costs only 250$.

SHeers and thx ahead for the answers.

Larsony: I don't have any detailed shots, but it's nothing spectacular to look at; just a piece of pipe and a universal muffler. The tips give it it's look.

mr photoman: It's stock size 2.25" pipe. It doesn't drone very bad at all. My pipes stick out a little past the bumper which helps. It should sound like these because it's the same series muffler:

martosh79: It was not easy to install. The guy who did it had to do some tight bends back by the rear suspension to fit, but any experienced exhaust person could do this. The sound is worlds better than the stock muffler. It actually makes me love driving it all over again.

If you guys decide to do this I would recommend going with 2.5" pipe. The guy who did mine used the stock size, but he made some pretty sharp bends. I'll probably end up getting the cat back down the road when it's a little cheaper and I come across some extra cash.

On mine they simply cut off a 1.5" section of the original pipe, rotated it then welded it back onto the magnaflow muffler and it worked very well. I left my resonator on so it is just 10-20% louder than stock. Just enough to sound good and no drone I used the magnaflow 14221. I have a spare for sale if you would be interested, I can get a shipping cost for Finland if you pm me your address.

martosh79, the stock exhaust is pretty good and is stainless steel. i think you would be happy with just the muffler. I also have a pair of brand new tips for it I could sell you. I paid $100 for the tips, I would let them go for $85 since they are still new in the box.

Hi,

I will have to wait untill I come back from my summer holidays' that will start in 2 weeks. It sounds kind of good in the youtube videos.

Thx Mrphotoman for the selling me your muffler but I think it will cost me more than buying it straight from FInland. (price+shipping+taxes) ´

Also I don't have to tools to weld the pipes back together. I will have to go to a garage and they will do it for me. I wish it would have been easy to install and that I could have done it myself.

Love to work on the car, it changes from office work.

I am sure a shop can weld it on for you for a minimal price.

Do remember that your SRT6 has a different exhaust setup than a limited model.

Yes you can, it takes some work to get the stock tips lined up though. I deceided to use aftermarket ones and have a new cat-back made and keep my stock exhaust intact for later.

i just installed the 12158 i like the sound but think it may be alittle to loud? ive yet to put the tips on tho so the muffler does not yet extend to the end of the bumper. do you think it will make a difference with the tips and what tips did you use?

Magnaflow's take a little time to mellow out.

When I first put on my 16633 cat-back system I thought it might be a little too loud. Then I took it to the track......about 5 passes and it mellowed right out.

Give yours a little time......it'll get a little smoother note in a couple of weeks.
