Default Best air intakes

What is the best air intakes possible for a limited crossfire? or is there difference if it is a SRT-6, so will a SRT-6 work in my limited?

I want to change to OEM intakes into some K&N (or other brand) intakes but don't know what part I have to buy. I want to have two of them like some of you have, on both sides of the engine.

Would appreciate your wise informations.

sheers.

A lot of us have had excellent results with the NeedsWings cold air intake. This mounts a K&N cone behind the grill. It is a single tube design, but Rob is having his second group buy so you could save a few dollars.
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ad.php?t=26647
From what I've heard the single tube design performs better, but I do like the looks of the twin tube design. (I've seen some references to MAF problems with the twin tube design)

If you want to stick with a twin tube design I like the look of BDJ's intake.
John aka "The Toy" likes his BDJ intake. Here is his thread:
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ad.php?t=22543
Also, the SL55 might be the easiest to obtain in Finland. This thread has info and part numbers: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ad.php?t=20009

Like Jeff says...
Needswings or TVT Design.
TVT Design has a dyno of their intake, as yet Needswings do not (they have a dyno for an earlier intake of theirs).
I believe TVT's is cheaper, and it is probably very easy to adapt it to the Needswings routing (which I prefer).
It's all been discussed here, at great length.
I would be willing to bet that for hp per dollar the TVT intake is better value for money.

I think this one is best: Best Intake 6000

But I have heard some people say that this one is better: Even Best'er Intake 6001

I am sure a quick search on here for "intake" would turn up some more data to help

No disrespect - But I just couldn't convince myself to pay $450 for a 3" pipe I could have fabbed up at a muffler shop for $50 - even if they messed up the bends on the first and I had to pay for second...or the third....

A search for "intake" and "SRT6 Gang Member" will tell you all you need to know about the current generation of intakes for the SRT6. I don't know if there is a similar thread for the N/A xFs.

Well, if I had the time I could make my own too. But I don't have the time to try, try again. After years of worrying about paying too much, I learned that if your satisfied the price was justified. And if your not, the bargain was a rip-off. Who has the best? Cheapest? Don't know. I'm going with the Needswings group buy.

How about $350 for a custom made powder coated pipe molded for a MAF sensor install and a breather hose connection plus 2 elbows and a 14" rubber section and a cone shaped K&N filter along with all the clamps needed and some small hardware to reposition a few things behind the grill and all provided with a DVD with full detailed instructions for a complete install ??
Also 1 free oil filter and a T-Shirt

Needswings - A quality product worth the money IMO

Thx all for the infos.

I am going on holiday next friday and I will check all those items then.

The Xfire is such a nice and good looking car in general, but the engine bay needs to be boosted and the intake will be one of the first things to do.

Have to read the threads mentioned above clearly and decide afterwards.

Still wandering if they have made some intakes for the SLK 320 that also might be suitable. They might be easier to find here in Finland than those mentioned before. There are more SLK or AMG cars here than crossfires' (only now 4 cab' and a maybe 10 coupes)

My kid needs also new shoes so it will be something I will also buy before Xmas. (TSW Jarama or Snetterton)

Have to say this is an amazing forum, and I am learning everyday more and more about this wonderful car. SO happy to be one of the luckiest to own one in Finland.

Sheers and Thx again for the infos.

I am very, very pleased with my $150 intake which I wouldn't switch for anything else. Best bang for the buck! I got the Spectre piping from autozone and added the K&N cone filter. Not sure if there is an Autozone where you live though.

While high IAT's may not be as great an issue for the N/A xFs, for the SRT-6s my personal concern is this:

Photo shamelessly borrowed from VALKRYDERGUY's user gallery, N/A model, please let me know if you have any issues with this

This is an N/A model, but as you know, the layout in the front is the same. The intake filter element covers ~25% of the radiator's surface area in the grill area, which means less flow through the radiator, and less cooling. While you may get cool air to the engine, if an SRT-6 is pulling timing to compensate for high IATs, it doesn't really matter. Also, isn't the main tube aluminum? That tube's gotta heat up pretty quickly, much more than a plastic tube. While this can be mitigated with header wrap, you then lose the bling factor of shiny metal and cover up that lovely NeedsWings logo.

With all that said, if you're planning to put pulleys and other mods on an SRT-6, it seems like you could be fighting more heat issues with this intake than others.

Our testing has shown a drop of 40-50 degrees in IATs and 12 RWHP gain on the dyno. We've also netted 2 mph and .3 sec quicker in the quarter.

Our piece is a 2 piece design that movew the filter completely out of the way of the engine compartment . The heat soak on the pipe is minimal when compared to the stock air box.

If you are really driving your car hard then the Needswings filter placement may be an issue, but to my knowledge nothing has been brought up about that. If it is a daily driven car I don't think you will have an issue.

Our parts are designed to work together and if you are looking to continue to upgrade you should look for products that were tested to work with eachother.

Either one you pick will be a good choice.

lmao, yeah all those dyno's are lying that show 25-30whp increases in power with the intakes. everyone should stick with the stock intakes if they want to make more power

Can you post a photo of your CAI installed? The one on your website is too small to really see anything.

If I understand correctly, an other than the OEM intake will give me more power and a better sound. Correct?

IF I have also understood the intake for a SRT6 is different than for the Limited. All the ones mentionned above are for the SRT6 or for the limited. My Xfire is a limited and I need something for it. What is the sizes for the pipes and intakes in the Limited one?

I am just starting to learn more from my car and I have no clue about mechanics. But I like trying and learning, so I think that if I find a part that might be suitable for my Limited, I will install it myself.

Sheers,

Sheers,
Needswings and TvT both make intakes for the limited.

I bought my 05 Roadster in Mar 08. All my cars have K&N air filters. Chrysler is saying it will void the warranty and it lets too many particle in and it will damage the engine. I am confused and concerned about replacing the standard filter. Does anybody have any out of the norm experience with this situation and with Chrysler

kj in nc

They have to prove it was the filter that caused the damage

They just want you to buy filters from them so they make more $

No the K&N filter will not hurt your car unless you go crazy and soak it with oil when you clean it.
