Magnaflow Cat Back Installation
Hi folks
I know there's another thread on this, but I thought I'd start a new one. We are having a problem remove that stiff rubber piece so we can drop down the OEM muffler. I know someone said to use a strong thin rope, pull down while the other person removed it. But we can't seem to do it. It's a killer.
What other method is suggested? Please. Thanks. Boy this is a bugger. I was hoping for an easiser time of it

Thanks Max Let me see if we have something like that, we should LOL ::whew:: a killer man. I assume this was a one man operation for you then? You were able to use that hook without stretching down the rubber ring?

About ready to give up. Well, I give up. Not sure what to do now. That freaking rubber thingy is just too taut. I've worked on it, husband has worked on it. Just can't seem to get a proper grip.
I hate, absolutely hate having a stranger even get near my car. But, it may be what we need to do. I have to go out of town tomorrow, so we're going to put the bolts back on and just give it up for now.
Thanks, Max, for your input. It is much appreciated. It just didn't work for us. I so looked forward to that "sound" today.

I had a skinny guy steering things as I (mass) pulled the damned things in the directions needed. PITA, but we "got 'er done".
Wherever you take it, just give yourself time to stay and watch.
And make sure she's REALLY CLEAN when you drive up.
When I did mine, I had the whole thing disconnected except for the rubber hangers at the bumper.
Let the exhaust just hang and scrape the floor.......brutal as it sounds.
Then, I sat with my feet under the car and the bumper in my face, using your feet, (better yet a good friend) try to twist the exhaust clockwise so that it eases the pressure on the drivers side hanger. once this is done, use some type of blunt insturment, (I used a VERY rounded off screwdriver), and try to force the hanger off the hook.

I had to remount my muffler bacause one of the rubber hanger rings was broken so I got 2 new ones and they were stiff as hell. Like you I found it was not easy to get the rubber rings back on to re mount the muffler. This is how to do it. With the car on the ground, get your hammer and wedge it upright between the ground and the underside of the muffler, hammer head on the floor and wooden shaft against the muffler at the rear. Wedge it in tight forcing the muffler up, bringing the hooks much closer together. Smear some soapy detergent on the rings, they will slip over those hooks just fine!
Good luck

Gee, thanks for all the input! We have decided we are still going to do it ourselves. I had the car out of town yesterday, so the OEM is still on her.
We'll keep trying. But, this morning I woke up to a dead computer. That takes preference! when that is done, tomorrow, we may work on the car again. Thanks for all the encouragement. As Max said "we'll get her done". I'll post back when we do!

Apkano, we did drop the unit all the down on that one end, but still could not manage it. However, we'll try with the hammer, knees, face, prayer, etc ;D
