how oftern do you change your oil?
just comming up to the first oil change on my coupe and was wondering the dealer told me every 6000 miles, how long do you all wait? is 6000 miles too long? thanks!
I never wait to 6k ... I try to change it every 3k but sometimes when I've rolled up some highway mileage in a short time let it get to about 4k ...
In any vehicle, fluids are the lifeblood ... stay ahead of those and you will greatly extend the life of the car

I change my oil as oftern as I need too, sometimes as oftern as 3,000 miles but usually no more oftern as the car requires.
How oftern do you plan to change yours? When you use the synthetic oil you can go a little longer between changes.
I have oftern wondered the same thing though.

Does the manual say 7500??
I've read some members changing at 7500, especially if they're highway miles.
I'm usually around the 5000 mile mark. I commute 55 miles to work so it's a lot of highway miles.

BTW ... I learned this the hard way ... as a young adult (well, I WAS young and was out of college so I was old enough to be considered adult, anyway) I had a car that had a tendency to both lose and burn oil .. I used to joke that the oil in it was 'self-changing' and just add a quart or two from time to time ... but, after I killed off a car or two and working as a service writer in an auto repair facility where I saw engines taken apart and being repaired, I started getting the idea that maybe following conventional wisdom would be a better way to go ...

The Mobile synthetic does last a long time, at one point they advertised it as 14,000 mile oil.
That said I change at 5K because I want to drive the car hard and for a vey long time. I changed it at 1,100 miles for break in, again at 6K for the Dragon, and am now at 8K. I'll be changing again before 10K.
At 200K I will have spent $ 4,400.00 on dealer oil changes at todays prices.
Oil, even the Mobil synthetic, is far cheaper than an engine. It's as simple as that.

From the manual...
Change Engine Oil
The oil change interval for your Crossfire is initially set at
7,000 miles (Canada: 11,000 km).
The Flexible Service System (FSS) in your vehicle evaluates
engine temperature, oil level, vehicle speed, engine
speed, distance driven, and the time elapsed since your
last service. It determines when your vehicle needs
maintenance service and alerts you in advance. The next
necessary service is indicated by the FSS in your instrument
cluster.

so you just reset the comp. and when the fss alerts you with 2 wrenches then you change it? what do the two wrenches mean anyway. other than that you change it every 7,000 miles?

This second symbol (2 wrenches) represents Service B. Service B rotates with Service A and includes additional service tasks.
The next service is normally calculated and displayed next to the Service A or Service B symbol as distance remaining before the next service is required.
Before you ask.
Here is what Service B includes.
From the service manual....

² Headlamps and exterior lighting
² Windshield wipers and washer system
² Check seat belts for damage and proper function

² Check condition of steering components and rubber boots
² Check underhood components for leakage or damage (if there are signs of leakage determine cause and repair)
² Check condition of accessory drive belt
² Check headlamp aiming, adjust if necessary

Somehow, you knew that was coming.
Just thought of another VERY important item to add to the list.
Remove drive belt, rotate and inspect pulleys and bearings.
Reinstall belt.

You guys are wasting money and expensive oil by early changing. Let the FSS determine the oil change frequency. Make sure you use fleece oil filters too. You're spending a fortune on expensive oil, spend a few extra bucks to get a quality filter.
Mobil 1 guarantees their products and their quality/performance has been proven time and time again.
Just my 2 cents.

Make sure you save up a few bucks for rear tires. You'll discover you'll go through them REAL fast!
