I have a 2005 SRT-6 with 43k on it. I bought this car a month ago and have not really driven it. Other than back from the dealer and a couple of short hops around town. Yesterday I went for a long cruise to try to familiarlize myself with the car. I noticed occasionally the throttle does some strange things. This car is stock as far as I can tell.

Symptom #1
While cruising around 40 MPH. The engine will go almost full throttle for a brief second, the trans kicks down also. My foot has not moved the throttle. Then it goes right back to the same normal cruising like nothing happened.

Symptom #2
In a passing situation while cruising 40-60MPH. I move the throttle down to pass, the trans kicks down, but the engine lazily revs to 3500-4000RPM no matter how far you press the pedal. This happens occaisionally some times the engine roars to life and before I can get around the car I am passing I am doing 85MPH.

From a stop, the car goes like a scalded dog. No problem.

The problem is a safety hazard also. If I am used to the normal passing power and then the car decides to not respond. I may not make it around the car I am trying to pass safely.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Oh, by the way, it will do this regardless of the position of the traction control switch.

I really don't want to take it to the dealer. I have a feeling they would be lost in dealing with this one.

It sounds like the TPS could be acting up but if you have not tried it you might try a throttle reset. If you are not sure how try this:

1. Get in your car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not.

2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter
turns over.

3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position.

4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back
to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas
pedal.

5. Wait 2 mins. for a full alignment.

6. Drive the car as you always do.

Key on, pedal down, 5 sec, key off pedal up, wait 2 minutes.

Keep the key in the entire time.

Symptom #2 sounds like it might be from a bad ic pump.

 

So after some research I found several threads on the TPS reset procedure.

I hope it does not have a bad IC pump. Were talking about an Intercooler pump right?

If it has a bad IC pump then it should only act up when It is hot. It was 20 degrees the day it was acting up. Also, it will do that, then I will stop at a light 5 seconds later and it will go like mad from the light with no problem revving up near the red line.

I don't know but I would think if the IC pump was not functioning properly then it should be more noticeable from a stop, not when I was going 40MPH shoving 20 degree air down the intake. Any thoughts on that?

I have a warranty, but they will probobly only install a OM IC pump right. Would it be worth it to buy the better pump. Or just get the factory one since it it still under warranty?

I will try the rest, and see if that clears it up.

So I reset the TPS sensor, and presto! the things runs like a whole different car. I don't know if it's just me but the pedal feels heavier now also. Seemed mushy to me before. Much more responsive, and all symptoms have dissapeared!

I know the Benz guys had a reason for designing this car this way but it seems like a pain in the ***. If they were really on thier game they would have an option to "log in" as a specific driver. based on who is driving or thier mood that day. lol

Thanks for all your help guys. I am still going to check that fuse #13 because after reading that one thread that faiz23 sent me, I am not 100% sure that the S/C is working when I stretch it's legs. I am also raising my brow to the idea of moving the heat exchanger higher up into the air flow. I would like some more info on that if any of you guys care to share.

Leon, I had really bad over temp problems and went the usual route of replacing the stock IC pump with a Johnson pump ($175) only to find I still had the same problem.
"Dr" Woody suggested that I move my stock HE higher up into the air flow and I've been problem free ever since even while running stacked pulleys.

So how is it done. I have some experience working on engines but nothing this advanced. I can basically breakdown the engine on my Buell and put it back to together which is basically a giant lawn mower engine. (Harley Evo. Vtwin)

So, I am going to need a little assistance in doing this one. Possibly Riot can show me the way, All the westside Chicago guys are meeting at my restaurant on Feb 7th. I think he said he was coming.

So, after driving the car a little more. I noticed it is still doing the downshift and floor it for a sceond on it's own while cruising at any constant speed.

However the acceleration issues are gone.

Any thoughts? I am hoping it somehow related to the extreme cold.
