Default oil type???

hi there,

what is the oil type for the xfire?

Is the mobil0w-40 Protection formula MB.229.5/229.3 suitable for the engine?

or the mobil 1 0w-40 new life suitable?

Check out bobistheoilguy.com as the mecca for any automotive lubricant question.

One of their forums is dedicated solely to Castrol 0W-30 (made in Germany) which is a heavy, almost 40W oil used by many European cars owners.

Almost sounds like the AMSOIL 0W-30, which is their top, most expensive oil at $11 a quart, which seems to outperform the Castrol 0W-30.
Check it out here... http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/sso.aspx

My local stores stopped carrying the Castrol European formula (GC) so I am back to Elf Oil. Their full-tech OW30 (I am paying about $7) is less than the mobil 1 around here.

Sorry for asking tighed1, I was on a shop and had no computer so I wrote the message from my phone. I couldn't use the search property. And I didn't have my car papers with me so could see what kind of oil was suitable for the xfire. Thx for helping anyway.

I just bumped into a mobil oil 16 liters for 130€ (167$), last time I bought 8 liters I paid more than 300€ (383$) in a mercedes shop. I just wanted to see if it was good and not make a mistake.

I will have to see for the other products that you mentioned. I will compare them with the 0w40.

best regards,

Just went to Autozone and they have a heck of a deal going on.5 qts of castrol syntech (5w40)and free oil filter under $25. Its suppose to be a k/n filter but will substitute the filter if not in stock. I got 10 qts and 2 filters for under $50 bucks. Regular price would have been $103 for 10qts and 2 filters.Like a used car salesman told me once-This deal is like a sore d_ck,you just cant beat it!!! LOL----------------Dave
