Default Retrofitting Magnaflow kit to SRT

So with all of this talk about custom exhausts for the SRT-6, I can't help but wonder what the limiting factor is with bolting on the Magnaflow dual-muffler kit for the N/A crossfires. Granted, the pipes may differ slightly, stock-to-stock, but the general path that the pipes must take is pretty similar.

Both the limited and SRT models have the pipes going under the driver, around the differential, and exiting the rear. Not sure if the N/A Crossfire comes with a resonator or not, but I know the Borla kit for the N/A does include one. I'm also aware that the Magnaflow kit does not, and while it wouldn't be completely painless to install, it *should* fit the SRT, right? After all, the hardest part (evening up the mufflers, and creating a smooth flow-path) has been done for you by Magnaflow.

Here's what I'm thinking for a "poor man's" SRT exhaust:
  • Magnaflow kit for the N/A model, ~$350
  • Magnaflow high-flow universal resonator (Maybe $100?), ONLY if you're a drone phobe
  • Magnaflow (or other) high-quality Y-pipe for the merge between rear cats and resonator ($75?)
  • Fill in the blanks with the proper lengths of stainless pipe, welded in place by an exhaust shop ($150?)
  • Done. You have a high-flow, stainless system for the SRT for well under a grand.
Is the Magnaflow system simply too small in the pipe diameter, or is the inability to simply "bolt it on" the only thing holding people back from using it?

I really don't think the latter is the case, seeing as I've seen some mangled attempts to shoe-horn other mufflers/components onto the SRT.

Someone educate me as to why this hasn't already been attempted... Purdy please

You may want to check with NeedsWings. I looked into that, but I think there was going to be an issue with power loss c/o the smaller diameters with the Magnaflow N/A kit.

NA Crossfires do not have a resonator and have a 2- 1/4 diameter pipe

Gotcha, I figured pipe-diameter might be the only drawback. Kinda hard to stretch 'em to make it fit LOL
