Default full exhaust or just muffler

I am just wondering wether it would be better to install a full exhaust or just the muffler are the performace enhancements worth buying the full exhaust or i should just go with the muffler for a deeper tone. thanks in advance for all of your suggestions.

Just upgrade the muffler to the Ansa or Magnaflow as discussed on here...

The Magnaflow 16633 is available for $350 plus Shipping. Just call wUnderCarParts (1-888-986-3373) and ask for the Crossfire Forum deal. Brad the owner has kept this deal going for quite some time. I haven't seen a better deal. Here’s a link to the product info:

Some old men like me love the sound. I find the bit of drone acceptable if that's what it is!

Here's a link to a write-up I found about exhaust drone. The Magnaflow 16633 has two straight thru mufflers. Apparently, the factory muffler has turns and baffles, etc. to quiet the sound? I am not sure how the Ansa is configured? My guess is that since all of these exhausts are approximately the same length, they all would 'drone' in approximately the same RPM range. You just don't hear it as much with the less noisy mufflers. I don’t feel that the little bit of drone (if that’s what it is?) with the Magnaflow is all that bad. It is just a noisier muffler over all. When listening to sound videos, it seems to me that the Ansa isn’t as loud overall as the Magnaflow, but I haven’t been able to compare in person.

I removed the muffler and it was toooooooooooooooo loud.

I put in one glass pack and it's still a bit loud and I will put another glasspack in series and hope it's less noisey and will cut down the drone!

There really isn't any performance gains that are worth the whole cat back system. The only advantage to the cat back is you can install yourself at home. I HIGHY reccomend the Ansa, costs less and I don't believe there is a better no drone muffler available. It will need to be welded on but with welding, the Ansa will cost less than just the Magnaflow muffler alone.

borla is quiet? I beg to differ... have you even heard one? Cause I drive with one... trust me aint quiet. Maybe it isn't worth a thousand dollars to some people, but you get what you pay for... I dyno'd my car recent, and it does give some pretty decent gains in horsepower (although I couldn't tell you if I feel it... I've had it a while and don't remember what it was like before)

the borla has a nice mello sound, pretty smooth, deep and LOUD, especially around 2-2.5k rpm, which is where I tend to keep it nowadays

If you think the borla is quiet, let me put it this way: when my dad drives my car, you can hear him turn onto my street from inside my house. Also, I had my english teacher the other day ask me "What did you do to that car that it's putting out an inordinate ammount of sound pollution.."

Feel free to stop buy if anyone thinks it's quiet. I'll give you a little spin in it. I'd upload a sound clip if i had a halfway decent camera or anything to do it with... but when I tried with the cheap little camera I have, it didn't nearly do justice to the sound

For what it's worth...

Step 1...I replaced the stock "librarian" muffler with a flowmaster. Sounded great but just to loud for a daily driver; cell phone conversations were out! Soooo I had the shop put a cherrybomb type resonator "upstream" a bit of the flowmaster and it quieted it down nicely. Problem solved but then it began to intermitently resonate and vibrate and just plain ANNOY me! Seems flowmasters are rather aggressive critters and magnaflows are more cultured

Step 2...put the stock one back on and save up for a magnaflow.

Step 3... Ordered the Magnaflow 14861, a bit on the larger side but it fit ok and I like the tips. It sounded better with no rattle. OK? Well, I couldn't resist reving it up one night in front of some boy racers ricers and was embarrassed by the magnaflow being subdued by that darn resonater.

Step3...had the shop remove the cherrybomb deal-e-o from step 1. He said it wouldnt make much difference but it really did. It sounds great now, ugh, finally.
Guess the correct course of action was to just go with the magnaflow in the first place.

Yes, I realize how much Ive paid to dance with the exhaust note of my car. And for what its worth, it took two more visits to the shop to get the tips leveled and then centered. I only pray my TVT CAI install will be eaiser...OMG, my CAI?! Ive already spent 70 bucks on K&N stock filters last sept....here I go again

Just to clarify, it's not a Magnaflow 16633 Catback? However, it probably sounds similar.
