Default How big a job

I am thinking about have the manifold covers and valve covers powder coated. Also how big a job to do same for the supercharger.

I installed the NeedsWing CAI and do not care for the looks of the motor without the engine cover.

If anyone else has ideas please put them out there.

Jim

My buddy owns a local powdercoating business and he told me that his "high temp" coatings will withstand 1500*F. I don't believe the s/c gets that hot...............even in Las Vegas.

Holy **** Batman!!! I was feeling VERY good about mine until you had to show this!!! How the heck did you grind off all the rough aluminum ? I take it you took the S/C off to do that? This is very discouraging!!!

Jim,

I would not Powder Coat the S/C. This will encourage it to retain the heat which is not good.......

Not sure how the SC would hold up to the oven?

The polish shop charged me like $250 for everything I could unbolt and bring in to their shop. They had huge grinding and polishing machines (220V 50 amp machines) - some of the pads were over a foot wide. took them no time to knock down the castings on the plenium and valve covers - and less time to polish them - plus they did all the IC hoses and the air pump hoses along with the bolts, IC tank and engine hooks.

They ended up doing the Supercharger and throttle body with hand tools - very labor intensive - I bet they lost money on that part.

But now that their all smoothed out - I'm thinking of taking them all off again and get them chrome plated (except the SC and TB)

Touche.................I always forget about that part. I still think it should be fine as long as you took all the seals/internals out of it as it would only be heated to 400*. The other downside as mentioned by someone else is that the s/c would then have a coated shell(like an M&M) that would keep the heat in/out.

A guy powdercoated his supercharger on his C32 in matte black...looked really good but the temps wouldn't matter too much unless you're looking at time slips

Keep in mind that heat is an engines worst enemy for many reasons and not just to wring out more HP. Within reason, a cooler running engine will not only make more HP, but it will be more efficient, experience less wear and less oil brake down.

I don't know how much the powder coating would hinder the S/C expelling heat but I would not believe it would be a positive thing to do. Just my opinion.
