Great information on the valve cover maintenance. I am in the process of fixing a leak on my valve covers. I have some damage to one of the hoses on the valve cover. Are there any replacement hose sets for the valve covers. the hose seem to be brittle. Anyone know part numbers for the hoses?

Ok, I want to replace all the hose associated with this valve cover maintenance. Thanks for everyone's help. 2004 XF 45k miles, subs refurbished, TPM light wire removed, but have after market unit in operation for TPM, new radio for USB support/phone. loving this car and this forum! Thanks

Great post! I love this forum, 12 years after OP and still helping an X-fire brother out!
The service manual I downloaded from this forum (again, I love this forum) says use a 1mm bead of sealant. I put some RTV in a 20ml syringe to make a very fine bead. When finished there was no silicone oozing out from the seam; time will tell if this method is successful.

Quick question for you on this set of hoses. Does the kit contain all three hoses that attach to the breathers? The right side has one breather hose coming from it. The left valve cover breather has two -- one that is the same diameter as the right side breather; the second comes off the back of the left valve cover breather that is larger than the other two.

that assembly is the smaller diameter hoses / fittings from both valve covers to the throttle body. the larger diameter hose from the driver side valve cover to the MAF housing woudl be this one

looking good
1. you can remove the oil fill cap extension neck, use a flat screw driver and pry up on it from the back side and twist off counter clockwise. you can then screw the oil cap directly onto the valve cover and eliminate a potential leak point.
2. I would like to see the hose clamp on the hose connecting the drivers valve cover to the CAI's MAF housing (I sent 2 of them with the kit).
3. you can remove the 4 rubber mushroom grommets on the valve covers as you no longer need them with the CAI
4. your missing the passenger side wiper arm nut cap
5. a little bit of brake cleaner and a plastic brush would go a long way on the top of that intake manifold to bring back its glory.

It looks like I have an oil leak at the base of the oil fill cap extension neck (No. 1 above). Is there a gasket or o-ring there that needs to be replaced? It sounds like it’s an easy fix without having to remove the valve cover.
