What's normal for IAT's
I went looking for my old logs and evidently they got trashed so I don't know what's normal with the stock H/E. So, now I have a super cooler and I think my IAT's are a too high. I'm staying around 120º driving around town. It takes a long time to get there if I don't go into heavy boost but that's where they settle. I went to the drag races on Sunday and the IAT's peaked at 162º. They dropped to 118º by the time I got back to the pits so the stock pump is working fine. Today I checked the water level in the super cooler and it took a cup to refill it, went for a drive and the temps went to 120º and parked there. Who knows what's normal? Will a new Johnson keep them lower? I've never had the dreaded supercharger shut down so apparently my IAT's don't reach that threshold. Anyone have any info on this? Do I need to spend more on cooling mods? (185º thermostat goes in this weekend.)
Ambient temperature is currently 95º to 100º. The track temp. was 107º on Sunday. Humidity is 100%.

Well, it's been a record february but how would having a reefer (marijuana?) lower my IAT's? Wouldn't that just lower my perception, or make me more relaxed about them? Or give me more boost? (What is a reefer unit, an ounce?)

It's so hot that, maybe the IAT's are a mirage? The reefer made me do it. I haven't heard that word since high school (70's) I figured it was something else. I google reefer unit and let you know what it says.
(google shows a bunch of trailers, smoking in trailers?)

I work in the same industry as doc, so it didn't strike me as odd at all when I read his post the first time... I had to go back and re-read the post to how it could be misread....
veloci,
just in case you didn't know what it was, or someone else doesn't. A 'reefer' in the way Doc was referring to it is a 'refrigerated cargo unit'. It allows cargo to be shipped either cross country (truck) or international (container) while the cargo is being kept at a certain temperature. this cargo can also be called temperature controlled. it could be anywhere from 2*C for fruits and vegetables from latin america all the way down to as low as -40*C for frozen fish from asia.
what doc was talking about was the generator they attach to some containers to control that temperature, otherwise known as a gen-set (at least in the ocean shipping business).
ok, enough rambling... just remember.
...THE MORE YOU KNOW...

thats part of the underhood temps
aluminum sheds heat very well, unfortunately it also absorbs it.
the high underhood temps are going to heatsoak the aluminum, not much you can do about it
