Default Installed Megan Racing Exhaust

Had the shop install it today. Had to cut the inlet piping and fab a exhaust hanger for it, but it turned out really good. Pipes sit flush like stock and the sound is pure sex. A little loud right now, but i hear that calms down after breaking it in. I was going to have them weld the stock pipes on, but he said since the weld on the new muffler is a chrome weld then it will rust over time. Maybe I'll have them do it later on.

Pics to come.

Quieter with time??? In my experience most exhaust systems get louder with time, could be differant with this brand but in most cases they get louder when 'broken in'.

Cheap mufflers get louder over time because they use substandard packing that burns out.
Megan actually makes decent parts at the right price point.

The reason they get quieter is the packing burns in, that is, all the free space between the packing gets filled with carbon and packs itself tighter, thus making everything quieter.

and as for a "chrome" weld, that makes no sense. Megan mufflers are polished stainless steel, nothing about them is chrome.

Post some pics of the welds in question

Not meaning to argue with you but wouldn't that give a lot of extra back pressure after time and make the car run like the cat was clogged. Thus defeating the entire purpose of the exhaust if in face that statement is true, and the muffler clogs itself over time to deafen the sound??

no, because these mufflers arent baffled, they are straight thru with perforated piping

Ahhh ok that clears a lot up for me, sorry I wasn't trying to hijack the thread just trying to learn a little myself.

yeah with the chrome weld the guy told me I was just going off what he had to say. The pipes look good and sit flush like stock, but I think I will switch it to the stock tips eventually. The exhaust has a very aggressive sound.

I'll get some pics up today.

pics/sound clips would be nice.

I had one of their exhausts on another car back a few years and it sounded really good.

Yea, people always knock the lower priced brands. We've used megan on drift cars and most of the drifting guys on a budget use them. We've only had a small nuymber of issues with some suspension pieces but their exhausts always seem to be nice pieces.

I'd be curious as to what it sounds like as well.

I had a $700 borla exhaust on my last car that droned like hell and really did not sound all that great. I replaced it with a megan and loved it.

We've had Corsa, Borla, Magnaflow and a few others on our z06, every single one droned so bad at highway speeds in 6th gear you couldnt hear the radio at full volume.

Its not so much the name or the cost, its more so how the muffler is constructed and the quality/volume of the packing used.

Now on my track car, i dont care about noise/drone, i just want performance, hence the 4" turbo back straight pipe. Once I get the turbokit done on my NA, I'll probably start off with a 3.5" straight pipe and work from there
