Default "CHECK ENGINE" light

What does this indicate?
It says in the drivers manual that I can drive as long as the car runs normally. I will check it at the dealers, when they have the time, but as they are approx 30 mins drive from my place I am just wondering if I can drive there without breaking down...

Invest $99.00 in a code reader at Wal- mart I did and use it on all my cars. It will tell you all the codes and give you an idea of what's setting off you DTC's. The last engine code I got was a crank position indicator and all I had to do after clearing the DTC was to reposition the wire on the clip which was just being pinched. Good luck.

My light came on coming home from church tonight. Stopped by AutoZone, the code is:

P0453 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor High Input

So, is this something potentially serious? Car runs fine. Guy at A-Z said, "I'd remove and re-tighten my gas cap and give it a day or so to clear, if it won't clear, then spend some money to have it looked at".

Hate to head for the Dragon if there is a chance I'll be flat-bedding it to some garage somewhere! I guess I could stop by the dealer's on the way up ( no Chrysler dealer here in town anymore, but the dealer I bought it from is on the way... if I go thru Gainesville like I did last year.)

But I can see troubleshooting the fuel and electronics systems taking DAYS.

Sounds like a gas cap code to me. Was it tightened all the way when you checked it? If not check all your EGR vaccum lines before getting it serviced. Maybe even take off the EGR valve and clean it out. Good luck. SRT guys are lucky enough to not have to deal with EGR equipment .

My light came on only due to bad filter / oil. I changed it all but the old filter was in such a state I had to pick up pieces by hand. The prior owners did not change the things they told me. Also changed airfilters.

It SEEMED to be tight to me, but I took it off and put it back on anyway. Thanks.

If it has anything to do with emissions, it is under warrantee for 10 years or 100K miles.

Cool Re: "CHECK ENGINE" light

In the gas filler tube there is a line out to a recovery tank for vapors in the fuel tank. I notice lots of people "topping" thier tanks to try to get as much fuel into the tank as they can. This now allows liquid fuel to head to the vapor recovery tank which clogs and fills this tank with gasoline insted of fumes. This in addition to a loose fuel cap may be the problem for this code.

Thanks guys... I'm down to 1/4 tank, haven't gassed up in 2 weeks.

I'll be checking vacum lines, etc. tonight.

Is the air injector relay part of the emissions system?

Right on the Money Skyking......This is more than likely the issue in most cases.

Light turned off after being on for 1 day. If I take it to have the code checked....will it still provide the last code even though it cleared itself?
