Default Serious interest in a piston/rod combo?

I was able to talk to our Manley dealer rap @ SEMA about internals for the M112. He said based off of his experience and the info I gave him on the motor it should be more than sufficient for most applications. However if you're like me and want that extra margin of safety or you're just going crazy with the power goal, they can make it happen.

He said if I can get 5-6 seriously interested parties then making the initial custom parts (they would become an order as needed item afterwards, very similar to the way Wavetrac does it).

I know where a rod/piston sample is so that's easy.

The rods would be their Turbo Tuff rods, which can take anything you can imagine. The pistons would be available in pretty much any compression ratio you would like, as well as dome/skirt coatings and any gas port configuration you would like.

I have run Manley in many of my builds. Quality is second to none, all of their parts are designed and produced in house here in the good ol' us of a. And they stand behind their product all the way.

We didn't discuss cost, as I didn't want to waste his time at the show but rest assured it would not be overly expensive, only a few dollars more than their standard 6 piston offerings.

If you have any questions, comments, input etc please feel free to post. While I may not have a crossfire for much longer I would still like to see the aftermarket support for these vehicles continue to grow.

Also goto Manley Performance for more info on Manley and their product line.

sounds like you want to convert a high compression motor to boost friendly CR??

what's wrong with the mercedes parts available from the dealer?

These parts are much stronger, not to mention way more affordable than oem merc parts. And you could raise or lower compression depending on the path your build takes.

Why not Pauter? Also, are the pistons hypereutectic? I wouldn't want to run non-hypers in these engines...

I would be more interested if I could find a company to do cams as well. I would like to get everything done all at once, but thats just me being selfish.

Yes, almost all forged aluminum pistons are. You can request custom alloy's depending on the motors intended use but almost all of the street pistons share the same alloy properties.

Pauter makes good stuff, they also charge accordingly. and having custom runs cost more than Manley. I've run Manley in all of my builds, not to mention as a dealer we've had a long history with them, so they are more open to things we need.

only thing you need to worry about is the amount of silicon in the alloy as that determines expansion ratio vs. heat.

I did talk to Comp about doing a run of cams as well... They said they would need master blanks first... And as of right now, I have no idea where to start looking. I think that is what kills cams right there.... Unless Schrick is willing to cough up a pair.

Although we could probably take a stocker and take our measuring arm to it and make a blank using the base circle diameter for blank lobes, but thats a lot of man hours for something that might not even be viable

Does it need to be the right material? It should be pretty easy with a CNC lathe. Cutting it would take no time if the blank were made of aluminum.

I'm honestly not sure. I've never had to deal with master blanks before. I would imagine they are simply used to cast the cores that will actually be turned into cams... Not 100% sure on that one

Can't help with a master blank but I do have a pair of stock AMG cams that are for sale. Or seeing that you are local I am willing to lend them to you for measurements.
