Unhappy Someone Help Me! Is $1,267 a little high for a new alternator on my '06 Crossfire.

Am at under 28,000 miles on this car. Just had it in for all point inspection & requisite service less than 600 miles ago. Indicator light came on last night & I took it to dealer this morning. Sat two hours and finally asked about status. Service writer said it was the alternator & they were trying to locate one. That Daimler was no longer in business with Chrysler & now it was Fiat and the part was rare. WTH?! Is it because I am a woman? Am I crazy to think this is a bit high?

I think it is way too high, and it'ss not becuase you're a woman. Try autozone, or carparts.com first. Then junkyards for MB sl series cars, or the slk, same as the cross. Alternators areb relatively easy to replace. My bet should be no more than about 500 max.

bosch altenator is $721.05 + Shipping on parts.com
2006 Chrysler Crossfire Alternator - Parts.com

I'm sure someone in Oklahoma can help you get it on. Or take it to an indi shop to verify it's the alternator.

Check RockAuto.com that is where I got mine. Just make sure you get the one witht eh right number of ribs on the pulley as you have on your car. My SRT needed an 8-rib pulley.

This supplier has a rebuilt Bosch to fit 2003 SLK 320 for less than $300, free shipping. Likely interchangeable with Crossfire. https://importecautoparts.com/

If you lived in the area, I would put it on for you.

Check here: crossfire alternator | eBay

This one appeals to me: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BOSCH...item27bbca8d04

To everyone, thanks for your help. I now feel more informed to speak with the Service Writer.

NO NO NO! No dealers!

You are wasting your time at a dealer. Go find an independent shop that works on MBs, (preferably, order the part yourself - see post 8) and take it with you. This is a quick job (an hour or so, I would think). Fayette Imports, about 1/2 hour from me, I think charges $110 an hour. I would think you could get this done for under $350 including the part.

I wish you lived near another forum member.

If $140 is too much, you can get it used for as little as $19 at car-part.com. The thumbnail below has the contact info for the listing.
