Default When will someone fix our delayed autostick shifts!

I did some quick searches and came up empty. Woody is working on throttle lag, but what about autostick lag shifts? The biggest complaint I have with the Crossfire since I bought it, is the delay between the shifter tap and the actual shift, up and down.

I am suprised a fix or device has not been created to make it more instant. Especially since all the SRTs have the auto.

Do you really have that much trouble with it? When are you trying to shift?

blue tops will fix it but harsh on the downshift. renntech can tune the tcu for a faster shift also but costs $$$

I am not having any trouble with it at all, it is the nature of the beast. All I want is for it to shift as soon as I tap it. I have driven 4 other autosticks with the same lag.

I would think the lag is just the transmission syncing everything up for the gear change. If I remember right there wasn't as much of a lag going down a gear.

I struggle now getting the car to down shift fast enough. Probably because I'm dropping two gears instead of one. ?

I understand completely. I've tried upshifting early before going into a turn near the top of 2nd because when it shifts in the middle of the turn it upsets the car. So flying down the short chute, hit the lever, no shift .... no shift ...... son of a gun shift sucker! Won't do it on demand. Gotta wait until it feels like it.
Blue tops speed up and harden the shifts but you still have the torque management. The TCU can be pulled and sent off to be modified but I don't know anyone that's done it on a Crossfire and I decided not to be a guinea pig. The LX's have a Mopar performance TCU they can buy and they can firm up the shifts with the Diablo tuner too.

On my SRT I would stay in 2nd (whatever gear you're in) and not let it shift going into a turn. You should always down shift on entry and upshift on exit. Upshifting going into a turn gives you a surge of power at totally the wrong moment.

So when you're on the brakes you should be down shifting, when you're accelerating you should be upshifting. There were several times I thought the car was going to launch me into the trees last dragon because I was topping out 2nd going into each turn. To fix this I rolled out of the throttle early to prevent it from shifting up and braked for the turn, bring my rpm's back into the prime powerband to fly out of the corner and down the next straight. If I had shifted it would've made me work the brakes harder, and I would've had to down shift coming out of the turn to get back in the right powerband.

Edit: aren't you the guy with the coil over suspension?

I hear ya, my 07 caliber R/T autostick is twice as responsive as my xf.

Maybe I'm just too easy to please but the transmission in the SRT6 seems to do what I want when I want. Not sure what people are whining about. If you're topped out in 2nd gear in a corner, whether it's a manual or automatic, I generally wouldn't be trying to shift mid-corner. I'd wait until I was well past the apex to upshift. Worry about maintaining momentum and control rather than accelerating harder in a corner. It's more about choosing the right gear before the corner and carrying as much speed as possible through the turn.

The SRT6 transmission does occasionally hold a downshift a bit longer than I would in a manual in the same situation. But that's easily solved with a quick tap to the right to upshift "manually". I've found the car to require some timing adaptations from a manual transmission but if you make those timing adaptations, I'd have to say it's as quick or quicker than most drivers can clutch-shift-clutch under pressure.

Coming from an S2000, it took me a while to "get it". But after about three months in the SRT6, I feel pretty comfortable throwing the car into turns. If I have a quibble with the car, it's the stability control. Too early, too much intervention, and too long before the power comes back. I drive with it in the "off" position and the car is much more predictable absent the scary drop throttle behavior when the rear end starts to step out.

Geez guys! I want it to shift before the corner, I thought thats what I said. If your full throttle in manual mode and hit the shifter to upshift it won't. I have to stop accelerating or it will shift in the corner and that's scary stuff. Downshifts under braking are no problem. Hit the lever early enough and wait for the 2 second delay.
Yes I'm the guy with the K&W's and the car has been cross balanced.

Are you at full throttle or do you have the pedal mashed to the floor thereby depressing the kick down switch under the right pedal?

BTW, where are you in PR? I lived in Mayaguez for ~3 years and worked in Anasco. I love the west end of the island. Rincon, Aquadilla, Boqueron. I can still taste the steak San Jacobo at El Estoril in downtown Mayaguez. And the rotisserie chicken at La Marina bakery is the best I've ever had. If you ever get the chance, look up Nali's Kid's place in Anasco (that's all people called it) for some excellent arroz y habichuela. Don't know what he did but the guy could make rice and beans a gourmet meal.

Hey Spudracer, I live in beautiful Isla Verde.

The upshift isn't really a huge problem for me and at the three tracks I race on there's only one corner where I wish I could get the car to upshift on command. But to answer your question the kickdown button is depressed and I'm WOT and around 5800 rpm and have no real option other than refrain from reaching redline in the corner. I almost lost control the one time I allowed the car to shift in that particular corner at the limits of cornering grip. I'll admit that I only tried to force an upshift a couple of times and it may work if I hit the shifter earlier.
I'll try again when I see that corner in August, unless the event get rained out again.

Sorry I read it as though you were trying to upshift going into a corner.

I've always been a spacy writer that's difficult to comprehend. I'll keep on practicing with my Crossfire brethren. (Do you understand all that Woody says?)
