NW DCAI Installed... Problems
*****PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED, THANKS***** (Coupler came off from the Throttle Body)
Just received/installed my Needswings Dual CAI for my N/A.
Was a little bit difficult to install, and took me ~5 hours to do it. (First time changing an intake on a car, ever)
Had a HELL of a time getting the coupler onto the throttle body, and it was pretty difficult to get the Y split into place. Actually, it seems like there isn't enough room to do this right, as my whole intake sits slightly to the left.
Anyway, I got in the car and turned it on. Revved it, and it sounds like it's running open-throttle. Sharp sucking sound when I depress the pedal. I notice that it lags a lot too. I'll push the gas pedal down, and nothing happens for about 1 second, then it rev's.
More driving around and I hear whistling while accelerating (I assume that is normal), but here's where things got weird. My XF started to bog and it felt like I lost a LOT of power. Once it cleared 2000 RPM's it was fine, back to normal at least.
Idle was a little rough for a while, (I disconnected the battery for 10min, and let the car idle for another 5min, and it went away).
I checked all of the connections (coupler to throttle body, elbow to coupler, etc.) and all are connected, and clamped tight.
Just got a check engine light and my car shut off on the freeway going ~85mph. (Luckily I didn't panic and die, just pushed in the clutch, turned off the key, and started again). Made it home no problems.
I guess my question is, what the hell went wrong!?
I'm letting my car cool off so I can investigate right now, but does anyone have any ideas?
I have no idea why just swapping the intake would make my XF lag so much.
Any info/tips would be great.
Thanks,
Eric

im not real familiar with the n/a but it sounds like you might have messed the maf up. it tells the ecu how much air is being ingested. so if its reading incorrectly you could be getting the wrong input for afr causing a bog or lag. the whistle sounds like a vacuum leak which would cause a high rev and high pitch sound
Thanks for the suggestion
I just went out and checked everything.
Looks like the problem was the coupler that attached the Y split/elbow to the TB came off on the TB side at the bottom.
Had to monkey with the fitting to get everything to stay tight without slipping out at all the locations, but I got it. Took it for a spin.
LOVE IT.
Thanks,
Eric

One other thing though.
Now that my check engine light is on... (also have my airbag light on)..
Do I need to go to a dealer to get them to reset the lights?

do the simple first. disconnect the battery for 30 minutes then reconnect. you will need to turn the steering wheel side to side lock to lock and back to center to reset the bas/esp lite. if the cel lite is still on then go to parts store and get any codes that are stored and post them here.

Just went on a drive through a canyon with a bunch of friends, didn't push it too hard but I definitely notice an improvement over stock. Not to mention the whistling sound it makes when I accelerate, overall I LOVE it.
Got so many compliments on how "mean" it looks with the dual filters in the front. (I have the black mesh grille so you can see them).
TOTALLY worth it.
Next stop, 74mm TB/Eurocharged Tune/Sprint Booster; I'm hooked!
