Muffler Cut-off
Hey yall, I was wondering.....Could you cut off the muffler and weld the exhaust outlets back on and still sound good? I like a good sound, It has a good sound now, but I would like a little louder. Need some advice.....

(im answering all your questions tonight! woohoo!)
In Pennsylvania your car will fail the annual safety inspection if an exhaust cutout is installed. If you plan to install one check your state inspection laws.

I'm new here and all. I just bought a 04 crossfire and have been using these forums for a quick reference on a lot of things.
One thing i will add to this thread though, is that i cut my muffler off in the back and y-piped it to some duel crome tips. Even if you kept the stock tips on, which would require some cutting and welding of your old muffler, i think no muffler sounds great. I can't compare it to magnaflow or borla exhaust system but the sound is almost perfect with out the muffler.
Sometimes you get a little bit of a backfire rumble too.
Also something to note, the car sounds totally different under a load (driving) than just reving in neutral so some of those videos don't always give you the best idea.

I would say a good muffler shop should be able to cut off the muffler, install a Y pipe, then weld your original tips back on with not much effort.

I made this video just so i could hear the exhaust. I wasnt trying to show off or anything. But this is what my 04 n/a sounds like with a muffler and back cats cut off. The muffler shop just welded on a duel crome tip which hardly cost me any extra.

Hey buddy, I just did the exhaust on my crossfire and let me tell you. First just changing the muffler makes it sound like a loud 350z. When you drive it on the highway it has a bad drone at 4 grand. I had the exhaust shop put a resonator on it. Sounds great now, just letting you know about my experience.

If you want civility, magnaflow is not the way to go, but if you want to tone down what you have now, and make it sound a lot more tuned, try it....
