Maybe it's just the 96 Volvo pump you used for a replacement.

You could be right if it had a built-in power supply. I will try to locate some small files at Lowes and sand paper for some contact cleaning.

I was just being sarcastic about using the Volvo pump. It's not uncommon for the pump to run when you're stopped or at a red light. There's also a solenoid,2 switchover valves and a check valve that controls the pump.

Using files and sandpaper are not to be recommended. If it is the contacts that are at fault you should use very fine abrasive cloth and leave a polished surface. These contacts are polished for a reason and you should attempt to do the same. Leaving a rough spot means you will be doing it again too soon.

If you have a rough surface the spark can arc across any rough high spot and pit that area, a smooth and polished surface is less prone to pitting.

Yo 180 (others)
Did we ever find a supplier for the relays?
A lot of the ones I am seeing are burnt and pitted so there's not a lot I can do 'cept clean up the mess that is there.

In my electronic repair day, I would use a fine emory cloth on relay contacts.

Not sure if this was the best approach, but many of my computer co-workers at the time used the same technique...
