Well then it sounds like you can do a burnout without the engine shutting it down at 4500 rpm.. crossfires "un moded" can't. Or at least mine won't and I've heard others mention the 4500 limit.

2005+ its fuses 17 and 18... 2004's you are out of luck. Manuals you have to pull another fuse but I do not remember which one it is. Let me peak around my StarDAS and I will let you know what I find.

Yeah there's a fuse.. 50 amp if I'm not mistaken.. but I have my doubts that it kills the 4500 RPM cutout.

Guess I could pull the fuse and do a burnout in my yard to confirm...

“Timing is everything. There is a tide in the affairs of men which when taken at the flood leads on to fortune.”

Unfortunately, for me, health, time and fortune have decided to forsake me.
I'm giving up my spot on the build list.
Good luck gang. If things change, I will be back.
If things get worse, I'll be selling my '05 Limited XF.... hope it doesn't come to that, but if it does, you'll be the first guys to know.! LOL

Best of luck to you with the health and fortune, time is something that no luck can help. Hopefully you don't have to sell.

Update from Corky

Hi DJ,
A week of nasty details. Time mostly spent on the flow meter arrangements.

To maintain the abominable engine cover many little things had to move . This is easy enough, but sort of gangs up on things. The heat shield at the brakes, vac bleed lines, A/C hoses, a few brackets and wires. All these details will likely take an installer about two hours to do. I spent about 45 hours with it.

I’ve got the flow meter tucked just outboard of the driver side of the cover. It anchors to a bracket attached to the cam cover and over the coils. The need for four iterations on the meter mount in order to get it right was a pain.

The only part remaining to construct is the compressor discharge tube from the turbo to the intercooler. “Only,” doesn’t include a few heat shields.

I think we are still compromise and mistake free. She is beginning to look like a finished product. Perhaps not magnificent, but certainly tidy.

Regards,

Corky

DJ - Are we talking about the OEM engine cover? I would think that anyone who is serious about performance on this car has ditched that a long time ago in favor of a single or dual CAI. I was under the impression this cover would be totally removed for the turbo setup....

Thanks for the update.

The only people I know that want the ugly silver engine color are those that bought the base model. It seems the grass is always greener haha. It was one of the first things I ditched.

I know there was talk of using the black MB cover without the airbox built in. Not sure if that was being used or not. Any updates on the pictures, might help clarify? Thought the visit was last week.

I can understand the need for some to want to keep a stock look, but like I said, many performance enthusiasts have lost the OEM engine cover a long time ago. If it is simply for looks that is fine with me, but if its functionality gets pulled into the equation, I would have to start asking questions. We know it is incredibly restrictive.

I am looking forward to clarification on this point.

According to BEGi we won't need CAI so I also have that question as to why the cover is needed if its main function is as CAI...but I am a grasshoper and corky is the expert but I can't think of any other reason other than...looks corkys shop was tidy no screw or clamp out of place...maybe same theory with the work he does

I recall Corky didn't like the ML-320 engine cover because it allowed you to see the coil packs... he didn't like looking at coil packs.

While the stock cover hides them better, I can't see the stock cover being the best solution for power.

But, he's the engineer.

Actually - I'm wondering if I can't eliminate the air boxes and trim the back off where it fits onto the tube. Kinda like my "ugly" silver cover. But then again I haven't chased 10 HP @ $300 a stroke either, so all I'll have on the half price mod sale is.. filters! Unless Corky makes up an enclosure to use them at the Turbo intake. ARE YOU LISTENING CORKY?
