Default Belt snapped while driving :?

Clunk, burning smell, stiff steering.. and pop goes the belt! Had a check and the fan belt behind rad was chewed up. 4 hours later AA finally took me home. So other than the fanbelt, what other part will I need? Theres a small plastic ring that's snapped and the top part of where the belt attaches to, is this a chrysler only part or anyone know somewhere cheaper...

Is the plastic "ring" a pulley perhaps?
More info!

A picture is worth a thousand words!

The Plastic ring could be the top radiator hoes support it just keeps the hose pulled toward the engine at the oil filter housing.,,not saying thats what it is but a possibility. and if you could put up some pics we could figure it out pretty quickly also you should be able to install the new belt , with minimal mechanical ability ..... Good Luck ..

Here we go dudes:

As you can see the belt has shredded, it's wrapped around the rad and all sorts. But I just wanted to know what part I need other than the belt, as clearly something else has snapped.

You need an idler pulley. This part is always in stock at the MB dealer and usually in stock at the Chrysler dealer. I have found it is usually cheaper to buy at the MB dealer. Chrysler charges extra to put a sticker with their part number over the MB number. If you go to the MB dealer, try to find a VIN for a MB with the 320 engine such as SLK320, C320, CLK320, ML320, E320 etc. The first thing the MB dealer will ask is the VIN number to look up parts. Telling them you have a Crossfire will get you no where most of the time. don't forget to ask for the belt as well. Make sure you have the proper torx bit to remove and install the new idler pulley. You need a metric socket and rachet or breaker bar to take the tension off the tensioner. There is a hex like nut next to the tensioner. Turn counter clockwise to to put the new belt on. if you don't know how to put the belt on, download the service manual that is in a stcky on this site. Good luck!

And check all the bearings. Make sure none of them are frozen.

x2 on checking ALL the pulleys... make sure they turn smoothly with no wobble or grinding noises.... replacing the pulley and belt is very easy.... just be careful with the tensioner so you don't pinch something that hurts.....

Also check the heater hoses on the passenger side by the alternator for any damage..... I was checking the alternator pulley bolt size Saturday and found that my heater hose has wear damage from when I lost my Tensioner pulley on the highway a couple of months ago.... no leaking or issues, but glad I saw it now and will find a new one today and get it on its way....

So THAT's what one of those look like without the plastic on it!

There was some nut here that was actually cutting into those pulleys to give them a smooth surface for the belt to ride on.
Some people!

Get her fixed and report back!

I noticed you have the tensioner with the gas cylinder. My '04 vin, 6237, does not have that. Can somone tell me the difference?
